Is there a way to have alerts automatically delete after you open the post?

When I have 7 new alerts, for example, I have to remember where I left off & find myself reopening things I've already looked at. Then I have a list of alerts for seemingly everything, even after I've open the link.

Not having the alerts automatically delete after I click on them to open the post is a real irritant & leads to a waste of time while I try to remember what I already looked at. Is there something I can put in settings to fix this issue? Thank you!

A new alert has a blue dot in the lower right corner. Once read, the blue dot disappears. It took me a while to realize this and it is easy to overlook, but it helps.

Unfortunately I don't have an unread example to show at the moment...I'll try to take a screen shot and come back to show it.
