Is there a way to get the free water park day without moving resorts?

Definitely doable. I do a lot of split stays for the scenery/area change and a clean room since DVC doesn't do daily housekeeping

I have four nights booked at CSR in August split 3/1 to get two free water park days. Guess I need to change the 2nd reservation of one night to a water view to make sure we get both water park days. Glad I read this.

And, if you leave people off the reservation, the front desk can’t always add them back in a way they’d get the free water park.
Good point about making sure all guests are added prior to get the free water park

Just changed our last day to a water view. Extra $26, but worth it to know that they can't merge the two reservations into one.

I’m here now, have two stays booked (same hotel and room category and membership and lead traveller and guest names). Front desk was able to let us stay in the same room, and the water park benefit shows up for both check in days still. I didn’t have to manually check out or check in for the second stay, it showed up automatically on the app as checked out, then assigned same room number, and water park benefit included with the stay.

Thanks for letting us know! At least we know it’s possible

Did the front desk ask about merging or did you specifically request to keep the two reservations separate?

When I talked to the front desk after we left bags with bell services (I had done online check in the day before), they were able to see that I was there for a second stay as well and asked if I was in the same room category. I said yes. She was able to look at the room assigned for both stays and confirmed we would be in the same room. No mention of merging or keeping separate the reservations by either of us, at least not in those words.

I did ask again to make sure this means we didn’t have to pack up and check out and then check back in. She said we didn’t have to pack up, housekeeping would “lock” (or maybe “block”?) that room in their system so no one goes in to clean it, and that if I check in on the app for the second stay, it’ll check me out of stay #1, I’ll be assigned the same room right away, and no need to stop by the front desk again. She said previously people had to come by the front desk but not anymore.

(I didn’t end up having to check in for stay 2, I went into the app and I had been checked out already with no option to check in again and it displayed the same room.)

My guess is she was able to link my stays together but the reservations weren’t merged. I didn’t ask her to keep them separate.

That was my conversation with the front desk, to the best of my recollection. I didn’t stop by the front desk again.

That's good to know. I haven't yet tried it, but we have a FW, and routinely add-on a day before or after, and, since they can't be merged by definition of a FW, I specifically called and asked MS if this would give us 2 free water park days, and she said that she "wouldn't count on it". Guess her info was bad....

Or, it will be YMMV situation. I’d also think that if DVC members began booking shorter stays and asking for no merging, like they were doing with the dining plan years ago, DVC could stay it’s not allowed.

Your situaton, though, might be one that would always work because merging isn’t possible!
