Is there a way to book a hotel room for my parents and them not see the cost?

Do you remember where on the app this is visible? I've never looked for room charges on the app--even my own room charges--so I'm curious about where it's located. And were you specifically looking for this? Or did the information just present itself while you were clicking through for something, perhaps something else entirely?

One of the reasons I'm asking is that I'm wondering if it's something that's not exactly easy to find on the app, so that OP doesn't really have to be concerned about this.

BTW, OP: If you do consider renting DVC points, please be aware of the restrictions, the main one being that your payment will be either completely or partially nonrefundable. Since you have other people going on this trip, you should be aware of this.

I don't. We were checked into Grand Floridian. I checked my MDE (app) and saw the room charges. So I asked to use her phone (got the ok) and checked her MDE (app) and saw the room charges there too. It was broken down too. Like the statement you would get at the end. It was the night before we checked out too.

I think I clicked on our room/plans and saw it there (it also had the room number we were checked into).

That's so interesting. I didn't even know this was available on the app.

OP, would your parents even know to look for this on the app? Or would they look? I mean, I use MDE all the time and never ever noticed this, including when I've paid for the room.

It just seems so much more convenient for a group to be staying onsite and not have to deal with transit times.

They don’t want to be in the same room so renting points won’t work unfortunately. Now I’m considering staying on property and them off property. Would they be allowed to visit us at the resort? I know they wouldn’t be able to go in the pool although it might be too cold for that anyway. Would they just give our name and room number at the gate?

You can add them as day guests, if you decide to stay on site. You'd give their names to the front desk and the front desk will issue plastic cards for you to give to them. When I stayed at the Poly in April 2022, they told me my day guests would have pool privileges. I have gathered the exception to this is SAB at YC/BC though.

They might not be able to figure it out. They had no clue how to look at current available hotels so they are not exactly tech savvy.

That’s good to know! It could end up being hot who knows with Florida lol. Was in the 40s and will be in the 80s for new years.

I am pretty tech savvy and it never occurred to me to look on the app for the resort billing since I had no need to.

I guess I'm confused because if you are paying for their room, why does it matter? Would they be mad if they saw how much you paid for it?

I'm a seasoned parent-deceiver when it comes to stuff like this! What i would do is tell them the MDE doesn't reflect the (made up %) discount you received. I've also had my parents' account access and changed their email to mine so they don't intercept anything. Once, my mom asked for proof that we got a great deal so I altered an email and forwarded it to them. Yes, it's a lot of hassle and some lying, but my hard- working parents deserve some luxury and won't accept help directly.
Now, if someone could help me figure out how to buy them a new dishwasher without them knowing...😂

Yes they never stay in expensive hotels and would think it’s a waste of money

That’s a great idea about discounts
