Is there a way to block incoming phone numbers to a landline?

"I have this friend" who has someone in her life she doesn't ever want to see or hear from again. New Year's Resolution...no more toxic people.

I...I mean she ...has Verizon Fios. I couldn't find a way to do it through Verizon Fios, but was wondering if there's some other way around it, or some additional equipment that would accomplish this. I figure if there is, someone on the DIS would know.

Sorry, no insight on blocking calls. You are a smart woman. Oh excuse me, your have a smart "friend". We cut the toxic people out of our lives 3 years ago and things are so much better for us. And those toxic people are relatives!

There is a service you can add to your landline that will allow you to block about 15 specific numbers. It is like 10 bucks a month, I think it is called call intercept? We had to do it for awhile cuz a family member decided to give out our number to all her bill collectors. We only had to keep it for like 3 months, then the people realized they could not get through and gave up.

Got it, and we don't. And then we get very disturbing and unnerving (annoying, pathetic, disruptive, obnoxious...feel free to add your own...you'd probably be correct) messages. I mean "my friend" does.

We cut the toxic people out of our lives 3 years ago and things are so much better for us. And those toxic people are relatives!

Ditto here...a relative. Unfortunately, other people get caught in the crossfire, but other people also helped create the situation. So I think it's time to stop taking other people's drama.

From what I can see, "call intercept" blocks anonymous callers until they announce who they are and you can make a choice about what to do with the call (accept, deny, etc)...sounds like it's mostly for getting rid of telemarketers. This person's phone number shows up, so call intercept wouldn't do anything with it, unless I'm just not seeing a different product that would handle that.

Um, switch to Comcast? Petition Verizon to reintroduce their version?

It's called Call Screening on Comcast, and you can code in up to a dozen numbers. The caller then gets a recording stating something like, "This telephone is not accepting calls at this time". It works on a weird number from which I was getting calls - the newspaper's telemarketing office but there would NEVER be a person on the phone when you answered it? Pain in the neck so, I have this number screened out. I have NO idea if I'm still getting calls from it.

Only other option I can think of is to have Verizon change your number and NOT put a 'new number' recording on it (something they'll do for thirty days when asked). Of course, then you have the issue of notifying everyone else of your new number...

We've had the number for 22 years, so I'd hate to lose it. And there are people I'd HAVE TO give the number to, who'd give it *HER*.

Wish I could just say to her "GO.AWAY." But she's like "The thing that wouldn't leave" (that was an SNL skit from MANY years ago, about a guest who won't go home). She doesn't take obvious hints, and she's HUGELY into drama...thrives on it. Tell her to get lost would make her upset, but even BETTER for her, it would give her DRAMA to milk, from one end of the family to the other.

So no matter what does happen, I was hoping to just not have to hear her drama played out on the answering machine to disrupt my otherwise nice tidy happy little life with my family.

Oh well.

I would be very careful with call intercept. Sometimes people who you want to call you don't quite understand it, and give up......... Not that I have ever hung up because I don't want to deal with it or anything Not to mention it is very easy to say you are someone else, if the friend is that persistent

Call Block *60

I don't have Verizon nor do I know anything about FIOS but, you should have a Call Block option. It's usually by dialing *60. You can program specific numbers & those calls will not ring into your phone. It usually costs like $5 per month to use.

Again, I don't have FIOS so maybe there's a reason they don't offer this

From what I understand...I think...call intercept only deals with callers who have their numbers blocked from being seen on caller ID, and it's a way of finding out who the blocked caller is before answering it. I have caller ID, and this person I want to avoid does NOT have her phone number blocked...I can see that it's her. So Call Intercept doesn't help that at all. (Unless I have it wrong.) I can just not take her calls, but I can't prevent her from leaving a message.

I did see about that *60 when I googled blocking calls, but no, Verizon doesn't seem to have it.

I'm poised with the phone in my hand now to call her and tell her not to call me anymore. Oh boy.

We are able to do it on our cordless phone by entering in the numbers we want blocked. It's a Panasonic that we got fairly recently from Costco. The only thing I am not sure of is if it sends the call directly to voicemail (which defeats your purpose) because all the calls I block are telemarketers who never leave a message anyway.

When a call comes in I hit reject one time and then anytime that number calls my house it is automatically rejected, it rings once and then goes to the reject message.

Call intercept blocls annonymous and blocked calls but it ALSO ALLOWS YOU TO PROGRAM IN numbers you do not want to get through. So if they show up on your caller id, you write down the tn, call the call intercept 800 number, and add the tn to your own block list.

I searched before I responded (above). As far as I can tell, Verizon does not offer this as a new service. If you already have it, no problem - but it's not a feature you can add any longer.
