I'm making an applie pie right now - nothing fancy - just using the Pillsbury pie crusts. After baking for 15 min, you're supposed to cover the edges of the pie with tin foil. I am having the hardest time doing this. The foil strips keep falling off and the pie dish is very hot, so I can't press the foil too firmly against the dish. Any suggestions here?

You don't need to press the foil on firmly, just lay it over the top so it doesn't get too brown. Just place a ring of foil on the edge and semi-secure it long enough to get it into the oven.

DH actually makes the foil pieces before he puts the pie in the oven, presses them down, so that they make their shape. Then, when it's time to cover them up, he just puts the pieces on, and they'll stay, since they're in the right shape already.

Although, I saw a really cool silicone pie crust ring yesterday, almost bought it, but I did not.

I always put my foil on for the beginning of the pie cooking and usually take it off the last 10 to 15 min depending on how long the pie cooked for in the first place.

Even then it is a pain to get the foil to behave, but at least you are not burning your fingers.

Pampered chef make pie crust covers. I always mean to buy them, but forget until the day before thanksgiving when I start thinking about pie baking.;)

That's what I do, too. It's just easier.

Use a stapler to staple three or four strips of aluminum foil together, wrap them loosely around the edge of the pie, and then staple the last two ends together into a circle.

I usually make a fold in the alfoil before I staple, just for added security. Definitely the easiest way to do it (other than the pre-made circles, but I can't seem to find one that fits my favourite pie-plate!)

I have never heard of putting foil on in the middle of baking a pie- I put it on in the beginning and then take it off when there is about 15-20 minutes left and the crust always comes out wonderful- nice and light/medium brown.
