If you put your cursor over the name "Private" a pop up says Coming Soon but no timeframe so we're just in a holding pattern.

Umm, those of us who've gotten in are not supposed to tell others as this forum is private. It's by invitation only.

When I first saw it, as a test I tried making a post which I was able to do, but was unable to view the post after making it. It was deleted a day or so ago with an explanation that the sub forum is still under testing.

One thing I still don't get... the new forum is be marketed as an "opt in/opt out" forum. Isn't EVERY forum and EVERY thread "opt in/opt out"? I know there are a lot of threads I don't even open because I'm not interested in the subject. Or there are threads that I open, read a page or so, then never go back to. Isn't that "opting out"?

Exactly - and that argument is as old as time itself. But I suppose it's better to have this, with it's clearly stated "trigger warnings" and gated entry so people don't accidentally wander out of their "safe spaces", than what the CB has become, over the years. I'll take it. I wonder if the sub-forum will still have a "Report" button?

We will probably be able to talk religion, politics, current events more openly but in a civilized adult manner. Disboards general rules would most likely still apply, I assume.

I still just like the fact that we can put a thread on ignore. I haven't yet but it's a nice option for possibly people who get triggered just looking at a thread's title and the temptation to enter that thread.

People on social media tend to talk like if they shout the longest/loudest, everyone will suddenly agree with them or people just give up and move elsewhere. I have trouble seeing how it would work any differently here if the usual guardrails aren't in place.

There are already enough people I have put on ignore who act like they are experts in every topic, their opinions are somehow better than everyone else, always have to have to last word, talk down to others like scolding a small child or take every opportunity to nit-pick comments they don't agree with. Hard to imagine that having less moderation will make any of those things better.

I thought the main benefit was that random people who DON'T use this site couldn't find threads by doing an online search like you can do now.

I expect if you don't opt in, those threads won't even show on the "new posts" page for you, so they won't push the threads you want to see down lower where you might miss them.

That is my take on the opt in as well. I rarely use the new posts feature as I mainly just stick to the community board.

That is an excellent point! We want people to find us because they love Disney, not because they want to argue politics.
