Is there a sign up for the new hidden/private forum or are we just in the waiting game at the moment?

Exactly - and that argument is as old as time itself. But I suppose it's better to have this, with it's clearly stated "trigger warnings" and gated entry so people don't accidentally wander out of their "safe spaces", than what the CB has become, over the years. I'll take it. I wonder if the sub-forum will still have a "Report" button? One thing I still don't get... the new forum is be marketed as an "opt in/opt out" forum. Isn't EVERY forum and EVERY thread "opt in/opt out"? I know there are a lot of threads I don't even open because I'm not interested in the subject. Or there are threads that I open, read a page or so, then never go back to. Isn't that "opting out"?
We will probably be able to talk religion, politics, current events more openly but in a civilized adult manner. Disboards general rules would most likely still apply, I assume.Exactly - and that argument is as old as time itself. Really having doubts about that one TBH.more openly but in a civilized adult manner.
The majority of us have self control.Really having doubts about that one TBH.
Mods could always ban people who get out of hand.Waiting to see how this will actually work. People on social media tend to talk like if they shout the longest/loudest, everyone will suddenly agree with them or people just give up and move elsewhere. I have trouble seeing how it would work any differently here if the usual guardrails aren't in place.
There are already enough people I have put on ignore who act like they are experts in every topic, their opinions are somehow better than everyone else, always have to have to last word, talk down to others like scolding a small child or take every opportunity to nit-pick comments they don't agree with. Hard to imagine that having less moderation will make any of those things better.
I expect if you don't opt in, those threads won't even show on the "new posts" page for you, so they won't push the threads you want to see down lower where you might miss them. One thing I still don't get... the new forum is be marketed as an "opt in/opt out" forum. That is my take on the opt in as well. I rarely use the new posts feature as I mainly just stick to the community board.I expect if you don't opt in, those threads won't even show on the "new posts" page for you, so they won't push the threads you want to see down lower where you might miss them.
That is an excellent point! We want people to find us because they love Disney, not because they want to argue politics. The private function is primarily to keep it from being index by search engines so controversial and debate topics stay within the community.
