Is there a reason there is no talk of OKW? Are we the only ones staying there?

Shhhhhh!

It's a horrible, horrible resort. Everyone should stay far, far away! ;) :rolleyes1

My daddy always said, "don't look for trouble where there ain't none." We've been staying at Old key West for about 3-4 weeks per year since 1992 and can say absolutely nothing negative about it. It's probably a good thing that there's not a lot of chatter about OKW.

OKW is the reason we are DVC members now.

We rented pts for our first trip and fell in love with the resort.

After our stay there, we decided to buy into DVC and our home resort is OKW.

We are in the process of trying all the DVC resorts and have been to VWL and Vero Beach and love them all for different reasons.

I love both Old Key West and SSR for the laid back and peaceful atmosphere even when they are at capacity it still does not feel so busy. Have a great time on your vacation!

We love OKW and have stayed there more than 20 times. I disagree with what someone said about the themeing. I think the theme is spot on! If you have ever been to Key West or seen photos of turn of the century Key West, you will understand the theme.

We paid for a stay at OKW years ago and after staying there bought resale. We toured BWV but didn't like it as much. (Although we've stayed at BWVand BCV and enjoyed both a lot.)

I love BWV, but I will stay at OKW anytime. It's great there.

OKW is a beautifully themed resort, with a peaceful laid back atmosphere. Having breakfast on the veranda watching the golfers is the best. We are staying there again in August. Don't forget to take the boatride to DTD. :thumbsup2

We are staying at OKW from 4/29-5/6 in a 1bdr villa. I was very excited about this until I have noticed no one really talks about this resort on these boards and I am wondering if this is a bad sign or what? Is there something I should know about this resort? This is our first trip to WDW so any info on this resort would be nice. Thanks so much in advance!

OKW is our home resort and our favorite of all Disney resorts. We love the atmosphere, the themeing, and the neighborhood feel of the resort. The size of the rooms is also one of the reasons we enjoy staying here. We are checking into OKW again in about 2 months.

Although we were already DVC members before we stayed at OKW, after our first stay there, we sold our other points, bought resale at OKW so that OKW would be our home resort. BTW, we'll also be in a 1 BR there 4/30-5/5. See ya there! Although we're not much on swimming, we love getting a Sultry Seahorse at Gurgling Suitcase and sitting on the boardwalk there.

OK, what's in a Sultry Seahorse?? We were at Gurgling Suitcase once when the drink of the day was Olivia's Sunset :thumbsup2 -- OMG were they great!!!

You know, I don't remember! I think it had rum and pineapple and ???? Next week, when we're there, I'll try to remember to copy down the list of ingredients from the wall.

Just to remind everyone, Disney's OKW resort is a themed resort. It is themed after 'old' Key West, Florida.

IMO that's no less of a theme than a theme of old Saratoga Springs, New York, or an Atlantic City Boardwalk, or a Colorado Mountain Villa, and so on.

It does not have the great theming that some of the other resorts
I disagree with the above statement and agree with Diane and Caskbill. OKW is themed as it's name implies---Key West. And disney did a great job. The resort is like a cozy little FL neighborhood. You love the large rooms and balcony. My kids adore this resort & love the new sandcastle slide. You can take a leisurely/scenic boat ride to DD or rent watercraft from the dock (just don't rent the watermice here, as they are pretty slow). We enjoy renting a pontoon boat and ride over to DD with a picnic lunch. Enjoy your stay. We'll be there in a 2 bedroom in early August !

We rented Points to stay at OKW 4 yrs ago - we only need a studio, that suits our needs just fine. We absolutely loved how quiet and relaxed the atmosphere is - the music, beautiful foliage, quiet pools. It's a great way to "decompress" from a day at the parks. We bought a small resale at OKW and are so glad we did :cool1: We can stay every year in a studio, bank the unused points and bring our DD, DSiL, and DGrD every other year. :goodvibes Looking forward to doing just that.... in November Like others have said " SHHHHH " OKW is Disney's Best kept secret..

We just got back from OKW (our 1st trip home). We were really looking forward to a beautiful relaxing resort w/ a homey feel. We loved the HUGE rooms and waking up to the birds singing, but due to the following the magic was hard to sense. Maybe we just had bad luck, but we do believe that there are quite a few incompetent cast members there. When we booked many months ago we requested something close to the HH (we know that is just a request and not a guarantee). When we checked in we were giving the farthest building away. They said that "that's all that is left". There was NO bell service available and we had no car. So we and our children w/ carry on bags walked in the dark all the way to our room. Our room had not 1, but 4 ac units 4 feet from our headboards. We called the desk they said that they could give us the room upstairs-just walk back for the keys. Four and a 1/2 hours , and 3 phone calls later our luggage arrived. They apparently were taking it to the wrong room. Three days later we were scheduled to switch to a larger room. ..........They wrote down the room #, we walked to our room and the key did not work-apparently the cm wrote down the wrong #. ....So walked back to front desk and hope that there is someone w/1/2 a brain in their skull to do their job correctly. The response from Kim @ the front desk was "everyone makes mistakes".

Will we stay there again? ............Not anytime soon.

Good luck to those who go next!

New to DVC, we've only owned since late last year. And having stayed at OKW, we promptly bought two resale contracts so OKW can also be a 'home' resort for us.
We don't talk about it much on the boards because we don't want everyone thinking it's great and booking villas so we can't get in! Stay somewhere else: Beach Club is supposed to be great! Wilderness Lodge is awesome! Boardwalk has entertainment right outside your window - and it's within a quick walk to two different parks!

We stayed at OKW last summer when we first became members. I also love the big rooms and the value of the points. Even though its not my home resort, I like staying there because the points saved really do add up if you want to take a bigger trip later. I also use my points for the World Passport Collection so I need it then. :thumbsup2

My thoughts exactly. :thumbsup2
OKW truly is "the best kept secret" and some will try to keep it that way. Am really glad I have the 11 month window at this resort for holiday times and GVs.
