Is there a place for us all?

I have 8 adults and 2 children (ages 2 & 7 months) that will be going to Disney in Oct. There are so many new or expansions off of the "orginal" hotel that I can't keep up. Is there a suite that will accomodate us or do I need to break it down into several rooms?

I would assume this is several families. Does everyone have the same budget, have they been to Disney before and do you often travel together on vacations? Knowing those things would give us a place to start. Everyone may also not have the same idea how to enjoy Disney and each family having their own room may work out better. Do you stay up late, get up early, want to race off to a park the moment it opens all matters in deciding how everyone will spend their time. Maybe renting a large house might make sense for that many people and would given everyone more space.

While it seems like going on vacation with 10 people will result in these "Hallmark Moments", the reality of vacationing together might be a lot different.

Depending on how much you want to pay - The treehouse villas at Saratoga Springs would work with a party that size - but I would really try to break it down to several rooms just for the break away from the others. You can always link your reservations together and Disney usually does a good job of putting linked reservations near each other as long as everyone books the same room type.

I'm generally a fan of each family unit having it's own room (or rooms). And I have a 2 BR booked with my in-laws in a few weeks (not my first choice but that's how things shook out this time around)

But really it comes down to how many separate sleeping surfaces and bathrooms do you need/want?
With that many people, I'd be inclined to book separate rooms at a value or moderate.

I heartily agree with the suggestion that families/singles (if any) may want their own room/privacy at day's end.

Even though you all get along great, there's such a thing as too much of a good thing, and Disney can be that after a park day for even the most hardcore fan.

I suggest that each family make their own room reservations within their own budget.
I agree with this, especially since there's always the possibility that someone will cancel. OP, you do not want to be left having to pay room charges for, say, a 3-bedroom grand villa, if only 5 people end up actually making the trip.

Also, although you might be considering renting DVC points, I suggest you book directly through Disney, which has great modification and cancellation policies. With 10 people involved, you are definitely open to the risk of people canceling, even at the last minute. No matter how enthusiastic anyone might be at the moment. Things happen and there's no predicting what those things might be.

This advice is being given to you by someone who has had to modify trips, cancel trips, and once had to leave WDW several days early (they didn't charge me for the nights after I checked out, btw).

Um, what do you mean by “the original hotel”? Are you only wanting to stay at Contemporary or Polynesian? Coz there are 31 Disney owned resorts. A little more info on your price range & what you’d looking for will help

I'd vote for separate rooms. If you must stay in the same room, book a Grand Villa. Renting DVC points would be the cheapest way to do that.

By original hotel, I meant like the original WL, AKL, Contemporary, etc. Now they have all these expansions that are off shoots of these places.

I think you are referring to DVC villas. But you are way far behind to be able to book with points if you are looking for an October stay, particularly at the 2 BR (which would be tight for this party) and Grand Villa options. I agree with others - 1 room per family booked at that family's budget is probably the way to go. Or if one person is paying for everyone, they get to choose the hotel of what they are comfortable paying.

Most DVC 2 bedroom villas and larger will accommodate 8 adults plus two young children. These rooms will come with 1 king bed in its own room, 2 queen beds in the second bedroom, and a pull out couch and a fold-down single bed or chair that converts to a bed in the living room. You're essentially sharing a 2 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and washer and dryer in the room. It will be a little cramped for 8 adults, but if they can all share beds it won't be a problem.

If you have the money, a 3 bedroom will include 1 king bed, 4 total queen beds, the pull out couch, and the single bed. It's more money, but if you have 4 families splitting it that could work. For either of these options, compare the price of booking with Disney vs renting DVC points.

Disney doesn't really offer affordable options for large/extended families. On one of our priors with extended family, my mother in law had this idea we would all share a big 2BR or 3BR villa to save cost (based on disney marketing and her experience with getting a large condo or house at some beach vacations). Once she saw the prices, she quickly realized we needed to split into separate rooms.
I'd suggest each family book their own room separately (or those who want to combine x2 pairs of couples into a single room) - this lets them finance it separately, and if someone backs out, it doesn't leave everyone else having to pay that family's share.

Best thing to do is either work with a travel agent to help book, or go on the Disney website to check for availability and prices. The "original" hotels no longer have "original" pricing. I don't know what your budget is, the monorail hotels (deluxe) will start at about $700 per night. Moderates about $300 and values (excluding Family Suites) $140. As others have mentioned, it's probably too late to rent points for a larger DVC villa, I would also agree on seperate rooms. It's nice to have some privacy.
