Didn't really plan enough ahead, but I would "LOVE" to lose 60 pounds before christmas and our Disney trip in December. Anyone have any ideas, or am I just NUTZ???

60lbs in 2 months is just plain unhealthy unless you go on something like the biggest loser where you have doctors watching over you and you exercise as much as they do.

A healthy weight to lose is 2lbs a week. If you have a lot to lose, you may lose faster than if you have less to lose. It's all about calories in and calories out - so basically eating less and moving more. But........Yep there is a but, you can't drop your calories too drastically or you will go into starvation mode.

You will lose more at the beginning, and some people do lose more than 2 pounds in a week and some less. Your best bet is to start today and do the best that you can - do it one day at a time and be happy with what you acomplish in 2 months. I think 20lbs is a doable goal within 2 months - and you never know - some people do really well and it just melts off.

I couldn't say it better than Melanie just did.

Go for whatever it is you can. Think healthy choices and healthy lifestyle not via that "D" word. Using the "D" word makes you think more about all that unhealthy stuff. Work on making the choice to get those pounds in line. You can do this, just not realistic in a healthy way in the 2 months.

Just think though, in these 2 months that you will be about 20 pounds lighter and well on your way to being healthier too! Start now!

:cheer2:

Is there even a non-healthy way to lose 60 lbs in 2 months - If anyone finds it - sign me up!!!! ;) :rotfl:

Yeah- Biggest Loser, LOL (but it isn't non-healthy) - Other then spending weeks with Bob or Jillian in Hell, I mean on Campus doing nothing but exercise all day. They produce big loses so I think that it might be doable on the BL campus, but it requires lots of work and dedication, focusing on nothing but yourself.

60 pounds is unrealistic and unachievable. Lose what you can and continue it after WDW.

My friend lost 60 lbs in two months. She gained it all back within 6 months. I lost 60 lbs in 9 months. That was 2 years ago, and I've still kept it off. At first I was jealous at how fast she lost hers! But, slow and steady was the way to go.:thumbsup2

I would say set small goals. Achieve them and move on to the next. Before you know it, you WILL be there!

I need to lose 20 lbs., but otherwise I'm in the same boat as you. I have a WDW trip and Disney cruise set for December and I really want to lose at least most of the weight by then. I'm not sure if it is possible though. :sad1: I am thinking about starting Slim Fast in the morning (it worked for me a long time ago :confused3). I'm also considering canceling my trip. Not sure what I should do.

60 pounds in 2 months is really dangerous.
However. I can sympathize with the necessity to lose the weight and thought I would offer something encouraging.
Losing 2 pounds a week is ideal for healthy dieting, however, sometime people will see a bigger loss in the first few weeks that is just your body responding to the sudden change in eating and exercising habits. After that your body will have adjusted and you'll have to work a littler harder and it will come off slower (this is also because you're lighter!) I lost about 15 pounds in my first 2 weeks of my diet.
So that being said, as long as you take your diet seriously from the beginning, you may get kind of a freebie jump start, which is always very encouraging.

The next thing I'd like to add is that depending on your current eating habits, a detox diet could do wonders. When I started dieting it was about watching calories and exercising, and I never drank much water. Once I started drinking water (I drank about 6-10 cups a day depending on my sodium intake) I dropped another 10 pounds just like that. So if you don't drink enough water...start. That was one thing that affected MY weight more than I would have thought.

As far as the detox goes...Like I said, it depends on your current eating habits. If you don't eat healthy and you go on a detox it is possible (not extremely likely but possible) to lose about 30 pounds (maybe 40) in a two month period. Unfortunately detox diets tend to be somewhat difficult to follow, and can be unpleasant =[

I did a detox that required things like detox baths. This is another thing that I suggest, more because it is relaxing and refreshing. Just take a bath and add 2 cups of epsom salt and 1 cup of baking soda. The epsom salt will make you sweat and draw out toxins. The baking soda will make your skin nice and soft. =] I will tell you that one day I did this and I weighed myself before my bath and after...and was actually 2 pounds lighter soaking wet after the bath. So I believe it works.

These are just some suggestions. I'm not here to preach about detox diets, because they don't work for everyone, but it worked really well for me. So you could try it, it can't hurt.

To wrap this up....60 pounds is an unrealistic goal unfortunately, but 30 or 35 is achievable, and after you lose even 10 pounds, I guarantee that you're going to feel like a million bucks! So if you can't lose 60 pounds, don't sweat it too much you're still going to hear people telling you how great you'll look and most importantly you're going to feel great too!

Slim Fast never worked for me. Maybe because I didn't use it right =/

I definitely think you could lose 20 pounds by December! The special K challenge is a good one, if you liked the slim fast diet. I prefer it, simply because I can chew my meals =]

I also suggest drinking lots of water and eating lots of fiber...it helps fill you up and keep you full. So you eat less often and smaller portions. It also keeps things moving if you know what I mean (which is important)

But anyway, I absolutely believe you can lose 20 pounds by December! And don't cancel your trip! that would be so sad

Thanks for the response! :) You are right. I shouldn't cancel my trip over this. I just wish that I wasn't dreading being in a bathing suit so much. :sad2:

I just saw my ticker and realized that I now have just shy of 1 month and 3 weeks to lose some weight. I need to do something, but I can't seem to find the motivation. :guilty:

I know how you feel momto2girls. ;) I have just about 9 weeks to go (we're heading to WDW for Christmas :santa: week) and I would L O V E to drop about 40 lbs before going. I hate the way I look in a swim suit. :scared1: I truly believe that the "motivation" you're looking for has to come from yourself. "HELP" can come from outside persons who give moral support, tips, positive feedback, etc. You have to make that decision. REALLY make that decision in your mind though.

My Motto:

NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN FEELS

I too know how you feel, and have a little story to tell you about my experience. For about 6 weeks before our cruise last December I exercised like crazy and literally starved myself, and of course forced my body to hold onto the weight I wanted to drop. :guilty:

We were going with friends that we hadn't seen for a while (they were meeting us onboard), and I did so want to be thin when I saw them again. Well I wasn't and you can't believe how I beat myself up over it - "if only I had started to diet a couple months earlier", "why couldn't I have lost the weight", "how did I let myself gain so much" etc.

Well, after we got onboard we went from our room and found our friends at their stateroom, and while our DH's talked my friend pulled me aside and said she wanted to show me something in the bathroom. So she & I went in there, and she pulled off her wig to show me how the chemotherapy for her breast cancer had taken every last bit of her hair (celebrating her ending chemo was one of the primary reasons for this cruise).

We had a big hug (and a little cry) and I have to tell you, in that moment everything really important in life was crystal clear, and to her it didn't include how much I weighed.

Please go and have a wonderful time! :cutie:

Don't we all have these stories? I came back from my first Vegas trip. I had bought cool clothes for the trip, thinking I'd lose a few pounds. I was in the middle of a move to a new house, and ended up GAINING more weight. I couldn't even fit my regular clothes, had a "break-down" in my closet the night before while packing. :sad1:

When we got there, I stopped caring about my weight. Yeah, I hate my pictures, but I know they are going to be my "before" photos!

C'mon, cut yourself some slack, and have FUN. Life's too short. :flower3: You can start a healthy eating plan and go for some walks, but do it for your health so you can stay on this earth longer, not to impress anyone.

No, you can't lose that much weight fast, but you can tone some muscles, which will help lots. Buy some new clothes. Look at how many plus size celebrities always look great because they wear nice accessories and clothes. Again, GO!! Have a blast! :cheer2:

Back when I decided to get in shape I got some very good advice: It took longer than 2 months to get out of shape so don’t expect it to take any less time to get in shape.

I wasn’t trying to lose 60 pounds but the idea is still the same. The way I took it was that it was my lifestyle that caused my problems and a lifestyle change isn’t a date you shoot for on the calendar.

Like a lot of other have said, 2 lbs a week is a good start. If you plateau for a bit don’t lose hope, these things happen. The other advantage of setting manageable goals is that you might actually meet them. Setting unrealistic goals in anything just sets you up to fail, and no one likes to do that.

Good luck on your weight loss, I know everyone here W.I.S.H.s you the best.

For a non-healthy way to lose 60 lbs I have one word for you…amputation.:goodvibes

Well you may not be able to drop 60 pounds in 2 months, but if you are committed to doing something and want the most "bang for your buck" I would focus on exercise rather than dieting.

Work out often and HARD. If something feels too difficult, do it anyway. Do it more. When it becomes easy, do something else. This is very important because exercise is not exercise when it is easy. When it gets too tough, something I've heard them say on the Biggest Loser which I now tell myself is "this won't kill you." It's one of those stupid little lines that just works for me.

By focusing on exercise, you will realize some very practical results for your trip. You will have the stamina and endurance that we all know is necessary to navigate the World, right? Also....even if you don't lose a single pound (but you will), I promise you that your clothes will fit better and you will look better in them. I don't know how else to put it, but your "stuff" just starts to get put back where it belongs

Good luck....don't starve yourself, it really won't do much for you. :grouphug:

I'd sign up for that too. Yeah I agree do what you can and continue after. You could probably lose about 15-20 the healthy maybe even 30 because sometimes the first couple weeks of pure concentration you can lose 5-8 lbs at a time(water weight really).

I am in the exact same boat. 60 lbs. Disney in December. Add in the Half-marathon in January and I wish it were all just gone TODAY. Not realistic or safe, of course. So I'm breaking it into smaller, more manageable mini-goals. 10 by Thanksgiving. Not sure if I'll do another 10 - maybe more realistically 5 between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then whatever I can manage before the Half. I'll need to get a new goal at that point, obviously.

I do the same thing when I run - "Oh man, if I can just get to that next tree, I could stop" and then of course I get there and think "I could keep going just to that crack in the sidewalk." It certainly made it easier to get started eating right and journaling this time. :thumbsup2

Is there a mini-goal thread somewhere?
