Is there a DSLR with wi-fi capabilities?

I am in the very early stages of considering upgrading my Canon Digital Rebel. I'd have to go look to see what model I have. I got it 8 years ago.

I tend to go back and forth between my Rebel and my Iphone 5 depending on where I am. Obviously the Rebel pictures are far superior even though I am a still (after 8 years) a novice with this camera. But one thing I really miss is being able to share the pictures instantly with friends and family. I know there are some P&S cameras that allow you to send or post pictures. Does that technology exist in the DLSR world?

So you put it in the sd card slot??? I have never heard of this but I am off to google it! Thank you!

Right now, I find myself taking pictures with the good camera and the fumbling around with my phone to try and recreate the same pic so I can share it. It's so inefficient and takes some of the fun out of picture taking.

many of the current DSLR models (6D, 70D) have wifi capabilities but like the other poster said, it would easier for you just to get it on the memory card

Yes, it's a memory card that goes in the same SD slot. Once you install the software, it's good to go. Unless I don't have my camera with me, I've stopped using my cell phone as a camera because the pics I take with my "real" camera are so much better.

Thats what I was going to suggest the "eye fi" card.

Eye-fi has two different kinds of cards that they're actively selling. (There may be some older ones that are still out there, too.)

Their Mobi cards, which are available in 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB, are designed for use only with a mobile device, like a phone or a tablet. They create a unique WiFi network between the mobile device and the card, and transfer the files directly. You don't need to be in a location with WiFi access.

The X2 cards, which are only available in 16GB, will work the same with a mobile device, but also give you the option of connecting via an establish WiFi network to store files in the cloud or on your PC. If you're in a location where an established WiFi network exists that you've registered in the card (for example, your house), the card will talk over that network instead of creating its own.

Another difference between the Mobi and the X2 is that the X2 will allow you to transfer RAW files.

The X2 needs to be set up in a computer. You link it to your devices during this set-up process, during which the card needs to be connected to the computer's USB port. The mobi cards do not require this computer setup. They have an ID number printed on the back, and you just enter this in the app to connect to the card.

Both cards will do what you're asking, but it sounds like the Mobi cards might be a better fit. To be honest, I have the X2 cards, but usually only use them with my tablet. Mobi cards would have been good enough for how I use them. When I get back home, I put the cards in the computer to transfer them because it's quicker than the WiFi transfer.

Several of the Nikon DSLR's have wifi and the Canon 6D although maybe more do also. The Sony NEX 6 mirrorless also has Wifi.

I think some of it would depend on how far you want to take the wifi - with the built in in some of these cameras it can go beyond sharing to being able to control the camera with your smartphone.

I have the 6D. Wifi on it is a nice feature and the instant Facebook gratification via a smartphone can be fun. But it does drain the battery. I find the wifi when used with the EOS Remote app a far more useful tool though. I would not buy a camera body just for the wifi though.

I wouldn't consider purchasing a camera body just for the wifi capabilities but since I am considering an upgrade, I wanted to see what my options are. Sounds like the Canon bodies that have wifi are out of my league so I will definitely look into the eye fi cards.

I have a couple of questions about the Mobi cards:
do you have to transfer all of the pictures you take? If so, does that fill up memory on your phone? Can you turn the "transfer" on and off?
Does it run down your phone battery when the pictures are constantly transferring to the phone?

To the poster that asked about Canon glass (sorry forgot to quote) - it is actually a sad story. I have 3 canon lenses and an external flash. Unfortunately, the 2 lenses that I don't keep on my camera seem to have disappeared. I kept them in an old camera bag along with extra memory cards etc. and I can't find the bag anywhere. I carry a smaller bag with just my main lens on it mostly and I don't switch the lenses out very often. By dumb luck, my flash was out when the bag went missing so I still have the flash. I keep hoping I am going to stumble across that bag somewhere They weren't expensive lenses compared to what a lot of posters on this board own but given that I shoot mostly on auto (I know I know, it's a shame), they were expensive for me. One was a kit lens and the other was the 90-300 zoom.
