Is there a difference between Disneyland Hotel Concierge and Disney Grand Californian Concierge?

We currently have reservations at the Grand Californian concierge and I am wondering if there is a differnce between the two resorts concierge services. We did the Poly Concierge in December and I really do not want to be disappointed. Also if we changed to the Disneyland Hotel Concierge we will be saving $200 over the Grand Californian. Has anybody stayed at both?

I personally do not think concierge service is worth the price but my husband wants to do it since we did it at WDW at the Poly.

I haven't done either of them but I assume your paying for the view. I belive the concierge at GC faces into DCA with a great view of Grizzly River Run. I know that Conciege is in the Sierra building at DL Hotel with a decent view of either the pool or DTD. I have been told their services are similar.

Thanks swinginevilmike. Yes you are right we did reserve the theme park view.

Anyone else have any comments?

I am also booked in the Grand Californian, concierge level. I don't have a lot of information yet (we go in three weeks), but I was told on the phone that the amenities at Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian are the same. My husband and I stayed at the Poly concierge on our honeymoon two years ago, and we loved it. After reading many of the posts here, I think we will be disappointed if we compare the DL concierge lounges with the DW ones. I have gotten the impression that DL just doesn't do as much in their concierge lounges at all the hotels, since there just isn't the competition that there is in DW. Hope you get more responses - I'm dying to find out more too!

When you get back from your trip let me know your impressions on the Grand Californian and doing the concierge level. I would really love to hear your comments.

When we went to WDW Poly we were celebrating our annsp and now my husband wanted to surprise me and do concierge level for my birthday. I hope its worth the cost!

Also I tryed to email you and your email (on this system) does not work.

Have a GREAT trip.

Well, I checked my profile and I THINK I fixed my email address, so it should work now! Thanks for letting me know!!

I will definitely post a trip report, with information about the Grand Californian concierge, right after I return from my trip.

We have done the conceirge level at the Paradise Pier (Pacific) We got breakfast in the morning (cereal, toast, fruit, bagels, etc.) In the afternoon from 4 to 7, I think, there was a hot item like eggrolls (small) and cheese and crackers. We also got next day reservations at the blue bayou. I would assume that the disneyland Hotel and the Grand californian are the same. The disneyland hotels really need to work on what their conceirge levels offer. We have access to the conceirge lounge level at the Anaheim Hilton and they spoil you as far as food is concerned. Breakfast is pretty much the same but the evening "meal" has more items and they have snacks available all day with fancier items in the late evening. All this for the same price as the disneyland hotels. I have heard that the WDW conceirge services are more like I described at the Hilton. If this is true you will probably be disappointed in the price you have paid for this service However the next restaurant reservations are a definite plus.

We did Polynesian concierge last July and than DH concierge November and the DL hotel concierge is nothing like the Polynesian concierege. If that is what you are expecting you will be disappointed.

Do you remember what kind of service (amenities) you got at the DL Hotel Concierge? What did they do different then the Poly did?

Anything you can contribute will be great.

Thanks
Cindy

I would say the service from the concierge staff was as good as far as reservations were concerned, and they did have the turndown service, but the food was not half as good as the Polynesian. There was no variety like the different themes they had at the Polynesian each night (Mexican, Hawaiian, Oriental etc.). The breakfast was about the same but afternoon was never enough to make a meal out of. Many times we could make a meal out of what was at the Polynesian. At the DL hotel there was just snacks, fruit, cheese, crackers, and some horsdervours but I don’t remember anything that I even felt like eating and I am not a picky eater. It was nice to have the drinks, water, coffee, and wine but not worth the extra money. I just remember looking forward to the lounge at the Polynesian every night (especially deserts) and nothing really caught my eye at the lounge in DLH. We were even in another building than the lounge so it was not very convenient to go to. I paid $1400 for 3 nights in a suit with concierge and I would have had as good a time in a regular room with out the concierge at a better price. I hate saying negative things about the DLH but the concierge just was not worth it to me. I am sure others have enjoyed it but I was spoiled by the Polynesian's concierge. I hope this helps.

Thanks Steve5150 for your info. Right now we are doing $600 a night and if we did reg theme park view it would be $500 a night. I will have my husband read your post to convince him to do reg room. Also right now we are considering going back to the Poly this Christmas and do concierge service again.

Thanks
Cindy

That sounds about right. Usually the concierge is about $100 a night more. I hate to try to talk you out of it but I just didn't feel it was worth the money and I am not a penny pincher. I usually don't care about spending the extra. I would just hate to see you feel the way I did after trying the concierge at DL.

I think the Polynesian would be fun around Christmas. I saw pictures of the lobby from last Christmas and they had a full size gingerbread hut with a gingerbread Santa in side the hut on a hammock. If you are interested in seeing the latest on the Polynesian (including the new volcano pool) go to my link below. Have a great trip.

Thanks Steve

Your pictures are great. I saw some of the construciton last December while we were there and its great to see what it really looks like now.

Thank you for your advice on the Concierge service. I am hoping that I can convince my husband not to do concierge (would you believe he is the one that penny pinches and I am the one that sends a lot on our hotel room). Right now I am waiting for DisneyaHolic23 to come back from their vacation (in approx 3 wks) and let me how how the Grand Californian Concierge was on their trip and then we will decide what to do at that time. The Poly was the first time we have done concierge and hopefully not the last.

Wow - $600 a night! I have an idea Minybear. Get a regular room at the Grand Californian with non-themepark view. I think this would be about $265.00 per night. You can hire me to be your personal Disney valet during your vacation for just $250.00 per day. I will bring you all the soda and snacks you want, plus three full meals. ;) And to make it worth your while, I will carry all of your things around the parks and stand in line for you. :D

I like the DGC Concierge. I agree, the DL Hotel and PP concierge are not "concierge", at least not like the WDW hotels. We always stay at the GF in Florida, and the DGC concierge is much more like that kind of experience.
After you check in at the parking gate, a special concierge comes down from upstairs to escort you to the private lounge where you check in, no waiting in line. Immediately they offer you a seat and a cool drink, assuming you are weary from your travels. Part of the check in process is what do you need? Reservations? Information? They are happy to help with everything from parade times to Universal Studios tickets to airport shuttles. They are lovely and helpful and make yur vacation just that much easier.
The lounge and the food are much like at the GF, a little less elaborate, but tasty and convenient. The lounge also has a tv, a list of DVD's you can borrow from (the concierge rooms have DVD players), board games to play with, and a balcony where people gather at nighttime to watch the fireworks. Because we got stuck with a parking-lot-concierge room (can you believe those exist?) we went to the lounge a couple of times to watch the fireworks. We took the parking lot view because we really needed adjoining rooms.
And this is slightly off-topic, but the theming at DGC is just wonderful and you can't beat that everything is brand new and state of the art (ie- minibars, etc)
Feel free to ask any other questions- we have stayed there three times now.
Susy

Thanks Suzy

My husband decided and determined to stay at the GC concierge. Cannot wait for our trip.
