Is there a catch to the upcoming Doorway to Dreams in Long Island?

I got an invite to the Doorway to Dreams, and DH and I are going with the kids. I got the confirmation printed out and everything to bring with us, we will be going on August 31st. It's less than an hour from our house in Brooklyn, NY.

Is there a catch to this? Tell me if I am understanding this correctly, and/or if I am leaving anything out:

1. This event is free of charge.
2. Mickey and Minnie will be there for a dance party. (This is what drew me to going, as my kids will love this)
3. They will try to get us to add on points, what this really is, is a sales pitch for them to sell more DVC contracts.
4. They will discuss ways to use membership (i.e., Adventures by Disney, RCI, etc.).
5. They will talk about the upcoming store in Roosevelt Field Mall, set to open this Fall.
6. They will serve light refreshments.
7. There may be other activities (they say there will be "other surprises").

Am I missing anything? What's the catch here? Is the catch just that they are trying to sell us more points?

The reason I RSVP'd and we are going is because it seems like it will be fun, like the kids will enjoy it. Kind of like getting some of the Disney magic right here at home!

If it's anything like the Vacation As You Wish event we went to at BLT when we were at WDW a few weeks ago - and I suspect it will be - there's not really a catch. You've pretty much got it all spelled out in your post.

The pitch we saw focused primarily on non-Disney vacations...I guess trying to convince the typical Disney traveler that DVC is a smart move to travel elsewhere as well. Of course, we were all too excited to tour BLT to really be listening to whatever spiel they were going on about, lol.

Our event was NOT pressured - you only spoke with a guide if you requested it. Most of the presentation was done to the entire group, so it's not as if they put you on the spot. The refreshments weren't that impressive - except for the giant cooler stocked with Mickey bars and other ice cream.;)

The group they had to host the presentation was fun...for the hour drive, you'll probably have a good enough time to make it worth it.

Thanks! DH and I decided to surprise the kids and not tell them about it. That day we will just tell them we are going out to dinner, and we will get there and they will be so surprised to see Mickey and Minnie! The event is supposed to be 2 hours which means it will be over at 6PM so we can take them to get some dinner then.

Now I am REALLY looking forward to this! :)

Thought I had to wait until July 2010 when we go on our first trip home to BWV in order to enjoy some Disney magic...guess I was wrong, we get a taste of it right here at home! :yay:
