I think the best place is dead center. When I did Fantasmic PAC we were always telling people to sit in the Mickey section because that is dead center and the tech booth is right behind the Mickey section. How far/close is up to you because it depends on: how quickly you want to get out and stuff like that. I always sat front row at the show because I am a peson who has to be smack up front. One other note: the far right seats are used for the people using the Dining Plan, and they will be roped off. Also, the very last 2 rows are used for guests with wheelchairs and their parties. Enjoy the show!
We have always avoided the very front rows because of the water splashing on you. It has been cold everytime wev'e been except one. It can get kinda cold. We do like to sit in the center though.
We sat front row center back in 2003 and had an AWESOME view!!! We had no problem with splashing water or anything. The only complaint was that it took a while to exit the theater (and that wasn't even a complaint - it gave us more time to rest our feet after walking around MGM the rest of the day!!!)
