Can anyone tell me if the Yacht and Beach clubs are connected internally or is the only way to get from one to the other is by exiting outside? Thank you. Wondering if there is any benefit to requesting a room at check in on the beach club side of the hotel?

There is an outside covered breezeway which connects the two resorts. When you make a hotel reservation, you'll have to request either the Yacht Club or Beach Club.

There's an extensive thread dedicated to both resorts here:

Which resort you stay at is not a request at check in. You need to specifically book one or the other.
There is a covered outside walkway by StormAlong Bay pool connecting the two.]
I second reading page 1 of the BC/YC thread
Good Luck

Your post inspired me to update the FAQ post we have about the walkway from the BC to YC.

Here you go

Walk from the Beach Club lobby to the Yacht Club lobby

I timed this during my August 2015 trip- it took me 5 minutes at a moderate walking pace

The entire route is within hallways or covered walkways, but you are "outside" in open air near Stormalong Bay at one point.

Looking out into Stormalong Bay. You are in the open air, but under a roof here.

You come in through these doors.

Wow now that is an answer..THANK YOU! I knew that the resorts were different but was asking this question of whether you could access one from the other. I have family staying at the BC and we will be at the YC and I was wondering if we request a room above the lobby of YC or to the BC side of the YC if it would help with meeting up together.

I will check out the YC thread! Thank you so very much!

I think you want to request close to the elevators. If you request close to the BC side of the YC, you could get that exact room at the end of a long hallway that you need to walk backward to, to access the elevator to the lobby. Hope this makes sense.
Bottom line, it will not be hard to meet up, they are right together.

They are two separate resorts (though they share the same building), so if staying at Yacht Club, you can't request Beach Club at check-in. The two resorts are equal in quality, anyway. We stayed at the Yacht Club this and last year, and love it. Both resorts have all the same amenities, and Yacht Club has the more elegant lobby. Buses stop at the Yacht Club before the Beach Club, as well.
