Is the Polynesian worth $60 more per night than the Contemporary?

I've stayed in the CR tower rooms, I loved the modern theming and the rooms and bathrooms are huge. The Mickey head pool is so so, I liked the stores and shopping areas. We've eaten over at the Poly and both DH and I agreed not our cup of tea. It seemed in need of an up date, just really old and musty. For $224 can you get another deluxe - like Beach/Yacht Club -- that has a great location, you can walk to Epcot or MGM. Pool is fantastic too. How about Wilderness Lodge? I've never stayed there, mostly because DH refuses to deal with the boat, but the theming looks awesome, and it's usually a bit lower than the other deluxes.

As for me, I would stay at the CR and just buy a packet of little bamboo umbrellas to stick in each beer I drank.

We spent a week at the Polynesian and 2 nights at the CR..two different trips. We prefer the CR! I didn't think the wing rooms were shabby in the least. At least no more so than our room in Tokelau was. We liked the Polynesian but dh and dd both prefer to stay at the CR, given a choice!

As far as the theming goes...the Polynesian's is okay, the CR is almost non-existent. But, we are not moving there permanently. We love being able to walk to MK, grab a boat to WL or FW. TTC is a short monorail ride away and the food choices are wonderful. The shopping, imho, is better at the CR. The Volcano Pool at the Polynesian is really nice but crowded.

Our room was in the NOrth WIng, looking out at the lake. Incredibly relaxing. We just loved everything about this place. We will stay there again. As for the Polynesian...again, we liked it well enough. You can't beat watching the fireworks from the beach!! That's just incredible. And Kona Cafe is terrific. And walking via the path to TTC is pretty wonderful too. But, will we stay there again? Probably not. NOt a slam, just not our taste.

My 2 cents. Many have mentioned the fact that the price seems like a Wing Room. But, more specifically, it sounds like a Wing Standard (not a Wing Garden), which means that you will more than likely be poised in front of the parking lot. In fact, the rooms are so close to the lot you feel like you are in it. I don't mind that, personally, for a weekend trip when I can get a rate of less than $140, it's great to be in the MK area with access to the monorail - in fact we are staying in a Standard Wing in a couple of weeks.

But, if this is a special trip, the $60 differential is worth it. The Garden View at the Poly will be decidely better than the parking lot view at the Contemporary.

I'm sure that $164 for the CR is for a wing room........and wing rooms are not all that special. We stayed at the CR once and if we ever did again is would be in a tower room, and those aren't any cheaper than the Poly.

That's what I was thinking. If I go with CR, it's tower only. I like it better than the Polynesian, but that resort's worst rooms are better than CR's worst.
