Is the MYW dinner package worth it..or can we still do it cheaper?

Hi there! We were considering taking our two youngest for a quick 4 day jaunt to The World in February and were looking at these MYW add-ons. Our two youngest are 9 and 11 and are NOT big eaters, and neither am I...although the hubby can pack it in if he wants to. Do you think getting the dinner add-on would be worth it, or do you still think it would be cheaper to just pay for stuff ourselves?

The last time we went with our four kids and we didn't once eat at one of the fancier restaurants. We just stuck with the quick cafe style meals, or the hotel cafe meal and everyone was fine.

Whaddya think?

If you are not planning on eating at the sit down restaurants then going without the meal plan would be less expensive. Also your 11yo can eat off of the kids meal but on the meal plan will pay the $35 adult price. You will also be paying rack rate for room with the meal plan add on.

I think its up to each..

I have decided NOT to purchase it when we go in October for a few reasons mostly the fact you are stuck with the rack price. From what I have read and saw last October I may be able to save a bit of money with discounts but with the plan you can't use a discount. Also while DH is a big eater, I am not.. I rarely eat breakfast and when I do its a bagel, bowl of cereal etc. so we decided, after looking at the menus I probably wouldn't eat $35 dollars a day worth of food. Also, we may decide to go to Universal or Sea World for a day and would end up having to spend money there as well.

I think that you'll be better off without the meal plan. For one thing, you'll pay rack rates on the room. You'll also have to purchase your passes directly from Disney, which will cost more than Mapleleaf or Ticketmania will charge you. And finally, your DS11 will be charged $35/night since Disney now considers anyone 10 & over to be an "adult" for dining purposes.

You can get the package without paying rack rate for the room. You'll have to book it through AAA to get a discount on the room. The amount of the discount depends on the resort you pick and the season you travel in.

My discount was 15% for PC during regular season.

I went with the dining plan because that's the only way my son and I'll get to try so many great restaurants in one trip. If I were to book everything piece by piece, we'd only do one sit down dinner and maybe one or two character breakfasts. Every other meal would be counter service.

We aren't big eaters either and I decided the Dining Plan would just cause us to overeat or be mad at the kids because they didn't eat.

We always seem to be able to share meals, even counter service, they just give too many fries. Unless you are planning lots of character meals I think it is just easier to pay as you go.

Now I am confused :guilty:

I was planning to get the dining package for the 5 of us the end of august. We have DD(12) DD(8) and DS(5). All are good eaters but my DS(5) has pretty bad food allergies and my DD(12) sometimes still orders off the kids menu.

We are planning 3 or 4 character meals plus Ohana and an Epcot sit down. we will be there for 6 nights.

Is the cost actually 35/night for 10+ ?? How much for kids???

Is is correct that I can get a AAA discount on my room AND the dining package with the MYW...is the AAA discount on that too?? I don't think so.

Good thing I have a lot of time to work this out. I really am having fun making all the plans!! This is half the fun.... :cheer2:

Thanks MNmom :wizard:
