Is the MK looking DIRTY?

On our last few trips we didn't think it was dirty, however, we did think that maintenance was lacking in many areas.

Some of the painted benches were chipping. Buzz Lightyear's cars were in need of a major paint job. There had been a party at the CR while we were there & there had been some spills, however, they weren't cleaned up for a few days.

To me these things are unacceptable at Disney. I hope it doesn't continue to deteriorate. :(

and found all the parks to be looking good, as usual. The big shock is when we went to SeaWorld for a day. You can really see the difference in how clean the parks are. SeaWorld was fun but the restrooms and other areas were usually dirty, something we have never seen at WDW.

As I was sitting here, reading...I had a thought. The first time I went to WDW was in '99. I remember watching MSEP and when it was over thinking..."Wow, how do they get it all cleaned up so fast." Whenever there is a parade at home, the aftermath is like a war-zone!! When I actually looked at the ground, I didn't see empty cups, popcorn boxes, napkins etc. People were putting them in the trash!!! Now, fast forward to last summer. After Spectro, as we were walking toward the park entrance to leave, we say many, many people just get up and leave their trash sitting on the curb, park bench, whatever. In Dec I actually saw someone drop a turkey leg, about 6 feet from a trash container, on the ground and leave it there!!! People just don't seem to have as much pride as they once did. I could comment on the behavior of kids and their parents also since I think it all goes to the same argument. Seems to be pretty much an 'it's all about me and my great experience' attitude. There just aren't enough CMs to keep the parks/resorts as clean as they once were. Not with visitor attitudes like these.

goofy4tink,
Well said! We have noticed the same thing. We stayed at Pop Century in January, and we could not believe the messes people left behind on the floor and tables. No attempt to pick anything up and put in the trash.

We were there in December and found the parks to be immaculate for the most part. There were a few things in need of repair, but nothing that made me say, "ah-ha! I want Eisner's head on a platter!" All in all, I think that Disney does a fantastic job maintaining its grounds. The landscaping is incredible, and the upkeep on the flowers alone is tremendous. I've been 4 times in three years, and I can honestly say that I feel that Disney is doing the best they can to keep up with a clientel that's becoming less and less considerate.

Does the crowd have anything to do with it, too? Maybe they prepare for a busy time and then afterwards have much to clean?

In addition to the factor of cut-backs.

I agree that, on the whole, Disney is superior to other places in cleanliness and maintenance. But they are being judged against a very high standard- their own. If you never went in years past, you wouldn't see anything to complain about now, probably. But that doesn't mean things haven't gone downhill- it's just a high hill they started on.

And I find it hard to believe that people weren't slobs back then and now they are, while poor Disney just can't keep up. It's just a coincidence that people became slobs at the same time Disney slashed its workforce and cut back on CM training?

Gimme that head! (Although I want it for lots of other reasons besides just this.)
