Is the Lynx transportation really that bad?

We are leaving on Wednesday. Staying onsite at Disney. My grandfather gave us a surprise today and gave us (all 6) money to go to US while vacationing. I now am looking for ways to get there. I know I can get a cab, or shuttle, but I really didnt want to spend that extra money. We will be going two days, and two days to SW. This kinda spur of the moment thing caught me off guard, and now I will have to try to change dining ressies and stuff. Is the Lynx system really that bad?

Lynx isn't that bad and it's cheap but it could take several hours...yes hours...to get to Universal depending on the schedule. I would just take a cab or the Mears shuttle.

If you can afford it, I'd book a shuttle.

If the money would make or break your trip, it's absolutely doable. The easiest way is to take Bus 111 to Florida Mall and transfer to Bus 37, which will take you to the entrance to CityWalk. On a perfect day, the route is rumored to be 90 minutes. If a bus is full (with people on their way to work, for example) you have to wait another 30 minutes for the next one.

I would strongly suggest that if you decide to try it, at least splurge for a cab on the way back at night. We used Lynx a lot on our last trip and it always seemed to magnify our exhaustion. It's really a matter of personal preference, plus the ages and maturity level of your group (i.e. if anyone is prone to meltdowns after a long day at the park.)

The problem with taking the Lynx bus to US, is that you really have to go out of your way because it is two different bus lines. I have heard of people taking the bus to SW without major hassle because it is on the same line. If you spring for the cab, I would do it on your Universal days. Or at least take one in the morning, that way you can get there early. Depending on how many of you there are, the cab may be cheaper than the Mears shuttles. There are mini van style cabs that you can request if you have more than 4 people.
