Easy question this time, is the Fort your favorite campground? If not, feel free to let us know where you like to park your caboose!

Absolutely, hands down, without a doubt my favorite C/G.

6 replies now I am only the 3rd reply. Who is the traitor?

FW is my fav for sure. Of course, I mainly have experience with KOAs and banjo infested campgrounds.

lol, are we missing replies again? I noticed the forum acting screwy again the other day

Haven't been to the Fort yet but I'm sure it'll rank pretty high on the list. I'm going to have to stick with Kelleys Island as my favorite tho.

Why?
This is your backyard

Wow, nice!!! Where is Kelley's Island? The pictures almost remind me a bit of Flamingo Park campground down in the Everglades.

No, but it's my favorite campground at WDW! It's also the only campground I've stayed at in Florida so that's not saying much, but I do love staying at FW.

My favorite campground (so far) is Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite National Park. I totally love it there!!!! We camped not too far from Happy Isles and the base of Half Dome and we had the most wonderful trips there, with the Cub Scout families and on our own. It's my favorite place to be the 1st week of June, every year, until we moved too far away to go.

My other favorites are at Sugar Pine Point State Park at Lake Tahoe and the little Jellystone campground only 20 minutes from my house in Texas. My favorite campground depends on what kind of camping I get to do--Disney, nature, or convenient & cheap but still fun!

...but I don't miss having to use bear boxes...

Lake Erie between Toledo and Cleveland Ohio, There are 5-6 islands grouped together there, three of them you can get to by ferry and have campgrounds. They are off shore from Port Clinton, Ohio.

Your pictures are making me homesick! I didn't get back to Ohio this summer, where I'd be staying in my parent's cottage at Heidelberg Beach (between Vermillion and Huron, right on the shore). We can see Cedar Point and the islands off in the distance most days, and Perry's Monument on a clear one. My sunset pictures from there look just like yours!!!!

So...Kelley's Island...is it tent or cabin camping only? Or how do you get an RV over there? Tell us more!

...much too far from Cedar Point...

I voted yes because I'm assuming commercial campgrounds.
But if not, then I would say the Amazon Rainforest is my favorite. :)

Perry's Monument

If you look in the first pick that is Perrys Monument from the west side of Kellys Island.

Once you get to Port Clinton and stop at Walmart to stock up head east on 163 to Marblehead and ride the Big Orange Boat

Take it out to Kellys Island

and relax :thumbsup2

The campground will handle anything from tents to rv's, they also have Yurt's you can rent, tent/cabin thingy's

Mid to end of August they have a one ring circus that comes out to the island, elephant helps setup the bigtop. They have a free movie weekend where they inflate a 50' screen at the ball field by the school and show fairly recent movies, last year the new King Kong was on the list...love the Kettle Korn popcorn::

If you want to go over to Put in Bay

just hop on the Jet Express from downtown on Kellys

http://www.jet-express.com/

There is also a state park campground on South Bass Island where Put in Bay is

http://www.ohiodnr.com/parks/lakeerie/tabid/753/Default.aspx

it fills up quick tho.

Kelleys Island is a great place to just go and fall off the face of the earth for a while. If you have a golf cart you can ride it around the island. It's not real commercial, they have a few shops downtown, gotta get the Moose Tracks ice cream then go into homemade fudge shop to finish the chocolate high. For the "night life" crowd head over to Put in Bay and the block long bar.

If you want to stay on the mainland for a few days there is East Harbor State park campground in Lakeside, between Port Clinton and Marblehead.

and Cedar Point is about 15 miles from East Harbor in Sandusky.

FW is not a campground - it's a resort - if I can't build a fire it's not camping!

Hey we are only bout 3 hrs from the islands, how much is the fairy with a truck and travel trailer?

I was working up there a couple of years ago, and we were going to go out to the islands one night, but didn't have ressies on the fairy, and it was booked. I know it was expensive just to be a passenger.... so I bet it is expensive with a trailer.

didn't have ressies on the fairy

For the Kelleys Island ferry you just line up and wait. They run two ferries when it's busy so they move pretty quick.

I have a Dodge Mega cab (about 20' long) with an 18' boat and it runs about $100.00 round trip with two adults...we never have the kids with us :rolleyes1 when we go out there so we only pay for two adults round trip. They charge for the trailer based on the length which I would imagine is standard anywhere but I'd call them and ask what the trailer charge would be for your length of trailer, as many TT's as they transport back and forth it probably isn't too bad. Using their price list remember that what they have listed are ONE WAY, and they charge for each person (hence we never have the kids with us :rolleyes1 when we go out there...amazing how you can misplace things in a Megacab)

Here's a live webcam for Port Clinton and Put in Bay...notice the golf carts on Put in Bay. If you watch the Erie Cam camera at the top and bottom of the hours you can catch the Jet Express coming and going to Put in Bay for Port Clinton on the Portage River.

I've camped at quite a few state parks & private campgrounds in Fla... & FtW is my favorite. My last 4 MH's have seen no other campground but FtW!! It's sad to say, but I'm a FtW Addict & there's no 12-Step program that would ever cure that addicition!!
