Are they completely interchangeable? Can I get my family magic bands instead if we're sailing soon or is there an advantage to getting an actual disney band plus?

It is rechargeable. It comes with an adapter that you can plug-in to a USB port to charge, It also features lots of colors and sounds.

Magicband + from Walt Disney World and Disneyland California are the same as Disneyband+ on Disney Cruise Line. You can use the Magicband + bought in Disney Parks on Disney Cruise Line.

The technology is what matters, it has to be the + version.

To add what's already been said, the only real advantage of getting the DB+ is that you get a cruise specific design. But yes, they are completely interchangeable with MB+.

Is it reusable for future cruises? Can you buy them at the port? I just noticed it on the DCL website but attempting to buy it takes me in circles on their website and I can't find where you actually buy them. My last DCL cruise was 10 years ago.

Please disregard, I think it's because my sailing is < 11 days away.

They can be reused at WDW, Disneyland, and future DCL cruises. You might be able to buy them once onboard, but I don't think they sell anything at the port. In order to buy with the pre-cruise discount, you must have a cruise booked and be within a certain number of days, maybe 45.

EDIT: You can also buy them at Shop Disney online or from many stores at WDW/Disney Springs or Disneyland. You just won't probably get the DCL specific designs and no discount.

If it is like just about everything Disney they will be available on-board in the gift shop.

I just returned from a cruise on the Fantasy and I had multiple issues with my Disney Band+ opening my door. I was not carrying my room key so was locked out of my stateroom three times and needed to go to guest services to have it re-set. After the 3rd time, I stopped using the band and just used the room key. They were not able to activate the band at the cruise terminal upon embarkation so I needed to go to guest services. I have no idea if they were having ship wide issues with the use of the bands.

Thank you... Disney was much simpler 10 years ago :( I'll just go old-school and use my room key.

This is super helpful to know, as I am going to be at WDW in January for marathon weekend and then doing DCL in April. So it sounds like I can just use the MB+ that I ordered for WDW?

What’s the point of wearing this if I can strut around showing off with my castaway club lanyard everywhere?

I can see this being useful for families with children because then the children do not have to keep track of the card. They are wearing it on their wrist so there is less of a risk of them taking it off and the card getting lost. Also, if people already have a MagicBand+ from a trip to the parks, it is something they can use again.

In all serious, does anyone know if the MagicBand+/DisneyBand is waterproof/water resistant? Can you comfortably use it at the pools (either on the cruises or in the resorts?)

I have used mine in the hot tub on DCL, but tried to avoid getting it wet for that reason.

Unless and until they are usable to get on/off the ship (unlikely), there's little point in having one IMO unless you prefer not to use a lanyard and have to keep pulling it out of a pocket or wallet. They don't do much else on the ship. If you already have one from the parks, sure, why not take it and use it, but it doesn't really seem to confer much benefit at the current time.
