With plexiglass railings on deck?

We loved our Disney cruise. We already have our next one (April 11th) booked and have plans on booking our 3rd while onboard.

I'm interested in a RCCL that leaves from Boston and hits Maine and Canada. We took a Carnival Cruise a couple yrs ago and I was a wreck worrying about my young kids. I couldn't take them up on deck w/o feeling like I couldn't breathe. I didn't feel this way at all on the DCL (with the plexiglass). I could actually sit them at a table, on deck, and walk 20 feet away to get them juice. It was so much more relaxing. Also, the children's programing was 10 times better and there was so much we could do together as a family.

I'm so afraid we will be disappointed (as a family..not as 2 adults) with another cruise line, but there are other itineraries, that are not available through DCL,that we would like to try..

Thank..
Jess

If you don't get a good answer here try the RCCL group at cruisecritic.com. They are very active.

Thanks.. I posted it over there too.

I know the people here love DCL as much as we do so I'm very eager to hear from anyone that has tried both cruise lines. I'm afraid that our positive experience, as a family, on DCL will make it hard to live up to from other cruise lines.

Jess :)

Jess..When you find out the answer, let us know.

Thanks

from what I've been able to find out....RCCL does not have plexiglass on their railings.

I know this might sound nuts but w/o the plexiglass, I think I'll wait a couple more yrs and stick with Disney for now. I know the risk is minimal but I can't even describe how much more relaxed I was with the kids on DCL than I was on Carnival (and as an adult, I love carnival...it was my 3rd cruise through them).

I'd still love to hear more about how DCL and RCCL compare from people who have cruised on both.

Gupsmom,

I have been worried about the exact same thing!! Your not nuts, just cautious. I keep having this vision of my 6 year old (7 at cruise time) climbing up the railing to see what's going on down below!! I am glad to hear about the plexiglas keeping his little feet on the deck where they belong.
