... we only get general tickets for 1 day?
I will not pay for extras just the basic general ticket. We have never been.

What do you want to get out of the event? Have you ever been to a convention (comic con, wizard con, etc) before?

With a 1 day ticket you are limiting what you may or may not be able to see. Historically Friday is legends and animation (not 100% sure here), Saturday is Live Action and Parks and Resort, and Sunday is Gaming and wrap up (something else as well). Those are the big stage events. There are two smaller stages that will have a mix of things that are hard to determine what it might be. Last year were things like Goof troop reunion, Inside Out chat, DVC/DCL/ABD, and many others. Then there are the floor stages that have different things through out the weekend. Again no set there.

If you only do one day you probably won't get into a big big panel if it is Saturday morning. You could probably get into the afternoon panel. I'm not sure if one day ticket holders can over night since I don't know how their tickets are sent. I wouldn't imagine you would want to spend your entire day on a line so shopping may also be limited. Mickey's of Glendale and the Disney Store often have 3 hour waits just to shop.

With all that said with one day you could walk the exhibit floor, see a lot of cool stuff, and meet a lot of Disney fans. My favorite part of any expo is just walking the portion of the floor full of exhibitors. Nothing like meeting the Dis team (hope they have a booth next year too!) as well as some other Disney inspired companies that I follow online. Nice to put a face to a person. You also get to chat and can get a ton of freebies.

In 2013 I had a 1 day ticket, I got a show pass for 1 parks panel I was interested in (not the arena, I did that in 2009, curiosity satisfied). I walked around, got some freebies, checked out the dealer area and waited probably 30 minutes for the Imagineering exhibit, which I knew would be busy so I did that right after I got the show pass. I wasn't looking to buy anything, but I did wait in the Disney Store line for 45 minutes for an Ariel bag only to be told they had run out 30 people before me when I got in (a warning that they were running out might have been nice.) I ended up in line behind someone I knew in college and hadn't seen in over 10 years, so that was ok. Then I met up with a friend and we waited for the archive exhibit, something like an hour, nothing like the 5 hours waits later in the day in 2015. In 2013 I got my ticket from a CM and it only cost $15. There is no way I would pay the $40+ per day for the same experience again. But I've been to 3 expos now, so only you can decide if it's worth it.

Thanks for the insight.
We have been to expos before just nor D23.
I know that with 1 day it will be limited and I want to, most of all, walk/see, take pics and just feel the vibe. Would love to do the 3 day pass but would rather put that money towards renewing our APs.

If all you want to do is wander and soak it all in, then one day should be enough. You probably would have to prioritize a single official store, rather than all three...and also decide if you want to wait in line for some of the bigger floor exhibitors (The Archives in 2015, for example).

But there is a lot to see and do, just on the floor show.
