Is the $5 p/p dining surcharge and new 18% service charge in effect for DLR too?

I know that WDW recently instated a ridiculous $5 dining surcharge for select restaurants for holiday periods (which in themselves are questionable) and also an automatic 18% gratuity/service charge.

Did DLR do the same thing? Just wondering while I plan out some of my dining.

I'll be at DLR during a "holiday period".

Not that I know of... I ate at Cafe Orleans last week and nothing out of the ordinary...

If it does happen, I'm gonna be so angry....

I haven't heard anything about that, but think that adding the tip is a great idea.

I think WDW has done this due to the popularity of the dining plan. Since DLR doesn't have anything comparable, then I doubt this will happen there.

I eat at DL a lot and have never had an automatic gratuity added unless I was with a large party or at a special event. I can see how adding a gratuity would be somewhat helpful, but I do disagree with the concept. I tip very well, and have requested to sit in areas where I know a server has done a good job with our party before. I've also had experiences such as the one I had at Cafe Orleans in October.

My friend and I went at the beginning of lunch there, 11:30, so it wasn't crowded at all. When we told our server we were going to split a meal, the expression on her face was "well I'm going to get a cruddy tip". She never came back to our table. We got our food from a different person, and asked other servers for drinks and refills. She only showed up when it was time to pay (and that's only because we flagged her down), and then she took forever to return with the change. If she had treated us well, whether we were splitting a meal or not, she would have been tipped well, usually I tip over 20% on that type of service. Because we almost knew what she looked like, we left 10%.

I want the option to pay according to service. I know I'm going to face the automatic gratuity when I go to WDW in January, and I won't hesitate to ask it to be removed if the service is not equal to the tip amount.

I sure hope they don't!!!

I know that tipping is a fairly touchy subject, but I HATE it when gratuities are added on to my bill!
We are good tippers, but I believe that a tip is a "thank you" for excellent service.
If someone is rude, or inattentive, or the service is lacking in some other way, I won't leave a tip at all. If the service is average, I leave an appropriate tip, and when it is fantastic...we leave a fantastic tip...simple as that.

How about everybody else? Am I crazy?

I think that at Disney, you should never be receiving anything below average service, there shouldn't be a need to not tip appropriately there, but I've seen some people not even tip at all, for no reason!

^^I agree, that we shouldn't receive anything below average service. In fact, at Disney...you should not receive anything below FANTASTIC customer service.
But we've all read stories about pretty bad experiences, and in those cases..I feel the customer has the right not to leave a tip. BUT certainly never for no reason...I hate that too!

Why exactly would you think that, the tip is just that, a tip for good service, why should I have to pay a preset amount if the service is crappy?

That's exactly it! Our standard tip is 20% but having them TELL me what I'm tipping pisses me off.
