The question asked by a stylist in the salon where I just got my hair cut! :rotfl: One of the other customers was talking about her Portugese parents and how they didn't have a traditional turkey dinner for Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is an American holiday so many countries don't celebrate it.

Indeed. Thanksgiving is a very American holiday and celebrates the Pilgrim experience. Cherish it. It is my very favorite American Holiday. :goodvibes

Not an American holiday, they don't celebrate it in other parts of America. It's a holiday of the United States of America. :thumbsup2

Thanksgiving is celebrated in Canada and the United States. While I lived in Portugal, I didn't know anyone other than American of Canadian expats who ate turkey in November. I worked in an international school, and we did do a Thanksgiving meal for the kids and parents at the school.

Guys, I KNOW it's a holiday only celebrated here....I posted that conversation because I thought it was funny! ;)

Wait--so you mean to tell me that England doesn't even celebrate Thanksgiving?! I mean, I figured since the peeps on the Mayflower were from England, they would honor their heritage. Not so?? :confused3

I have a friend whose parents came here from Spain. They never celebrated Thanksgiving and never ate turkey. It just wan't part of their culture.

I have friends going to Japan for Thanksgiving - to see their son and his family, since he's stationed over there......it just sounds so odd - "going to Japan for Thanksgiving"!

I like that. :rotfl:

Other countries celebrate their own heritage their way. It's so funny how many people think other countries do exactly the same things.
