Is Teppanyaki at Epcot worth the extra cost?

Dh and I were just talking about getting some Japanese food while we're at Disney (we live in a dismally small town and look forward to travel for more interesting eats!). The kids would love teppan-style I know, but there's also a Benihana and maybe others in Orlando...I am assuming Teppanyaki has that "Disney premium" in its pricing, though I can't pull up a menu for Benihana with prices, so I can't be sure. We do have DDE so would get the 20% discount. And we have a rental car and 5 non-park days in our schedule (15 days! woohoo!). Also looking forward to some good sushi, though I'm guessing the counter service place might be better selection? I had a lovely bowl of udon noodle soup there in May, would be happy to go back for more...

We ate here on our last trip (11/9-11/13). The food was excellent, it was high priced and the service was iffy at best. We had made "reservations" (disney style) and when we got there they told us they were running 45 minutes (at least) behind. Well, then why take ADR's???? We missed Illuminations because of their poor planning. Oh, and they sat a table that didn't have ADR's before us. Go figure. My honest opinion-go off site if you can.Have a great trip!!!

We LOVE it and our kids do too!!! Food is good and the entertainment is EXCELLENT!!!

Benihana prices are similar to Mitsukoshi. Teppanyaki restaurants are all about the chef. If you get a great chef, it makes the experience even better.

Just an FYI, the DDE card is not accepted at Mitsoshuki's. It was never on our list and they confirmed that 2 weeks ago when we went for lunch. I would say that the dinner prices are too high, but their lunch prices are fairly decent.

Isn't that the dept store in the Japan pavilion? Can one also eat there? Dh and I did spend time poking around in there, I don't recall any food service. I'm a little confused...

We will be there at the same time as you (Jan/Feb 2007). Just so you are aware, the sitdown Teppanyaki restaurant will be closed from January 15, 2007 until May 25, 2007. So, I wouldn't worry too much about their pricing, since they will be closed. We are very disappointed as it is one of our favorites.

Yes...that is the name of the store. The teppan restaurant upstairs from there is called Mitsoshuki Teppanyaki. (did I spell that right?)

We love it and go each time we go to Disney. Disappointed that when we go in March & May, it will be closed for rehab....

Although we had a great chef I cant say that any of the people at our table were blown away by the food. It was just OK. In fact the other party we were seated with just werent keen at all. We had eaten at Kobe on I Drive which was awesome so Teppenyaki just didnt measure up in any way.

There is an excellent Benihana in the Hilton across from the Downtown Disney Marketplace.

Prices are similar to those in the restaurant in Japan / Epcot.

It's my opinion that the food is better with better portions and a similar atmosphere.

There is also a Kobe on Palm Parkway. This is minutes from Disney property, just off 535. This is very popular. Again, this is only my opinion, but the food at Benihana is better.

Thanks everyone. Good to have recommendations for the off-property places as it looks like the Epcot one won't be an option for us anyway. Dh found something online called "Kanpai of Tokyo" on S. Kirkman--anybody know anything about it?

Yes it is the name of the store, but it is also *technically* the name of the restaurant. At least according to the dining people as well. No one calls it by the full name.

I don't know about any of the Japanese places off site. I normally don't bother going to them around the Orlando area. Most of the ones I have seen/heard of are too pricey compared to what we have here.
