Is someone trying to hack into the cell phone? Area(222)

Okay my gf has been getting these phone calls from area code 222. She has not answered it nor called it back. I did a check of area codes for 222 and as far as I can tell there is no such area code. Anybody else here of this?

222 is a country code for Mauritania.

I wouldn't answer it. At the least, it's a wrong number. At the worse, it could be similar to this scam.

Yeah, I just got that call 15 minutes ago; and no one said anything! They just held the line open for 3 seconds and hung up. When I called back, it said I was unable to call the number from my phone location.

I never answer or call back a number I don't know, if they leave a vague message I call from work. My work is only shows area code on call screening.

I am currently getting calls spoofing a local area code. It keeps telling me a have a criminal or civil judgment against me.

11 years later, the same area code is being used for a scam.
