Is Pirates of the Carribean (the movie) suitable for a 5 and 3 year old?

We have never seen Pirates of the Carribean (yes, I guess we live under a rock!) but we have rented it and will be watching it today or tomorrow. Question is, is this suitable for family viewing with a 5 and 3 year old? They love pirates and it is Disney after all so we think it's safe, but some of the ads I remember seeing for it looked like it might get kind of intense?

Please give me your opinions? It would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

I can't really say...I've got a 5 yr. old and she is scared of it...so I wouldn't let her watch it. I think it might be too intense but just my opinion....

I love it though!

I bought it for my DH at Christmas.

He started to watch it with our 7 and 5 yr old (5 yr old was 4 at the time.)

I questioned if they should be watching it but it turns out they LOVED it!

I couldn't believe it. No nightmares or anything.

Not every child will handle it the same, though.

I don't really like Johnny Depp and I also loved the movie. It was very good.:sunny:

It depends on how your children are with things that are scary. I know that if my DS's watched it at that age they would have nightmares and be up all night. There are parts that are very intense. You know your children best, you may want to screen it yourself to see if it would bother them or not.

I wouldn't have let my kids watch it at that age. I think the skeletons are scary and I don't think the 3 year old will be able to follow the plot.

You may want to preview it, (several times ;) ;) ;) ) . Everytime I see POC in these threads I want to watch it. :teeth:

My DDs (5 and 2) LOVED the movie. No nightmares, nothing. DD5 asks to watch it all the time. I would say that if your kids are easily scared, you might find it a bit intense for them.

Thanks for your insight everyone. I guess we will just have to watch it first to be sure. From the sound of it though, I am pretty sure my 5 year old would love it. The younger one, I'm not sure but I'll know better after I watch it. I'm looking forward to it! We're about to pop the popcorn now.

Thanks everyone.

It's rather long so they might get a bit bored as my son, 11, did, otherwise I think it's okay. I doubt if they'll get the gist of the skeletons and their story but Johnny Depp is like a cartoon character!

I would think the skeleton stuff might be too scary, at least for the 3 year old, but alot of it is just plain funny and pirates are fun to watch anyway.:D

The storyline will probably go right over their heads, but like I said, pirates are just fun, whether you understand the story or not.pirate:
