Is Pal Mickey worth buying for the kids?

We debate this every trip but have never done it. If I'm gonna buy one I want to do it on ebay and save $30, but wasn't sure if he was worth buying or not.

We debate it every trip too and I've decided that this year I'm going to do it. I think if nothing else my daughter would like the Mickey Mouse. I didn't realize you could buy them on ebay. Sorry, probably not any help but I thought I would chime in. Have a great trip!

Yes, they are around $70 at WDW I believe, and you can get them on ebay for $30-$40 (plus around $10 shipping on average). I think a lot of people must buy and only use him once, then sell. Which made me wonder if he wasn't really that great? But maybe they just don't go to Disney as often as we do, so they wouldn't think of re-using. :ni:

I love Pal Mickey! We bought it for my son a few years back. Now he's outgrown it and I carry it around.

Yes! We bought Pal Mickey on our 2006 trip and took him back for our '07 trip and plan on taking him in '08. we all love him, he tells jokes appropriate for that part of the park, he sings songs, clues you in to where character signings are. He's a great "extra" when getting bored in standby lines.

The DD still sleeps with him every night, and each of us have brought him out and played with him when we need a little pixie dust when home.

Just make sure to have batteries ready for when you take him into the park for the first time. He uses up some power for his recharge/updating on a return trip.

I haven't really seen the new ones, in his Sorcerer Mickey costume, on ebay for that much cheaper than he is in the parks. I am always nervous about things like that being purchased on ebay, because what if he doesn't work? I think we may just go ahead and buy him in the parks, that way if something would happen, we can exchange it.

What kind of batteries does he take? And which is the newest version? If you have an older version, can he be updated for future visits? Does he continue to entertain after you bring him home?

My DD3 loves her stuffed Minnie Mouse and pretends to make her "talk" with her all the time, and she loves her Minnie Mouse phone from the Disney Store even though it only says about 4 phrases she has whole conversations with her. I think she'd be tickled by having a Mickey that actually DOES talk! It seems like a lot of money though, so I may look into the eBay ones if they are the current version. Help me decide if it's worth it!

He takes 3 double A batteries. Our version is from 2006 Gold bow tie and tux jacket and yes he updated when we took him over Easter. He absolutely entertains at home. He can play games, tell jokes, talks and is a great snuggle toy. Our DD6 LOVES him.

One joke? What did the cherry tree say to George Washington after he chopped it down? I'm stumped.

I got my Sorcerer Pal Mickey on Ebay for around $50. He looks brand spanking new to me!!! The seller said she took him on a family vacation, but they always forgot to bring him to the parks. So he was unused and looking for a family!! I think he'll be fun!! A good way to pass the time in line and such!

Just a word of caution: DO NOT USE LITHIUM BATTERIES WITH YOUR PAL MICKEY!! It will DESTROY him. This happened to my neighbor. Pal Mickey was running low so she ran in to the of the gift shops and bought batteries for him. She didn't realize they were lithium batteries...poor Pal Mickey was struck dumb! the batteries fried his computer. On the plus side she was given a brand new Pal Mickey when she took him into a shop to find out what was going on with him. The person who replaced him said that the CM should have known not to sell her Lithium batteries for Pal Mickey. (she had him with her when she bought the batteries and she had purchased PM just the day before at Magic Kingdom)

I think he's great! My step kids love him and he's full of useful information! Go for it!!! Join the Club!!
