I am going to WDW in July and I was just wondering if Pal Mickey was really worth the $60 or $70 that people pay for it. I was going to try to convince my dad to get one for our trip, but before I do, I wanted to know if it was worth the fight. :confused3

I don't care for Pal Mickey and found him to be a big waste of money.

Reasons:
* He speaks to soft
* He's a pain to carry around
* The clip on ours didn't hold Pal Mickey well and he would slip off
* He didn't talk as much as we thought he would

There are many Diser's that would totally disagree with me, and that's cool - we were very displeased with him and I don't say displeased and Disney very often in the same sentence.

I think he's cute and when he works and you can actually hear him, he's neat....but we have to carry him on our shoulders right next to our ears to be able to catch what he is saying when he says anything if he says anything....

Our kids like the games he plays while waiting in lines.

Here's what I had to say on Pal Mickey a few days ago:

I bought my Pal Mickey from the Wilderness Lodge gift shop on my first morning in WDW last week (the 12th) just before heading to MGM, and I absolutely loved him (this coming from a 22 year old, LOL)! I loved him a lot more than I thought I would, actually. Best $70 I've spent in a long, long while. He worked great at MGM right from the get go, and I was happy. Problem was there was a downpour on the way to LMAX and I nearly had a heart attack that my new Pal would be fried before I got in the stadium! But I sacrificed my dryness for his well being and wrapped him in my jacket, LOL. Best advice if you do get one is: 1. bring a small plastic bag to put him in to protect him from rainstorms and 2. try not to wear him (if using the lanyard) directly around your neck for long. I did that for 3 days in a row, and by that time my neck felt like it was gonna break, yowch.

Is he worth it? imo, definitely. He's $65, and with tax he was $69 and change. He worked perfectly except: his batteries died on the 3rd day right before I went on Soarin (so bring spares with you, just in case); on the 5th day he literally wouldn't stop shaking about the parade in AK starting until I listened to what he had to say (this was during Tarzan Rocks); and the weirdest (and yet entertaining nonetheless) thing was right before I got on Star Tours on my last day there, he started saying "Here in Germany..." He'd been working a-okay before then, and as soon as I got off Star Tours, he proceeded to make a joke about the ride and didn't make another error. That was just really strange, LOL.

Oh, and def. take Pal Mickey on Pirates in MK. What he said afterwards was one of my favorite lines of his. Mickey apparently does not like being called a rat.

One other thing: he sounds incredibly loud when you've got him in your hotel room or car, but sure enough when you get him in the parks, it's still kind of hard to hear him. Just hold him up to your ear, and it works fine; if it's still too noisy to hear him, wait until he finishes talking and then squeeze his hand again to get him to repeat it. I think he repeats anything in the parks up to 3x, as long as you press his hand within 8 seconds of when he stops talking.

We really like our Pal Mickey and think he's worth the $$$....and we're adults!!! I'm sure our little one will like him, too, when she is old enough.

DH and I had a blast with him on our last couple of trips!
