Is October so crowded that I need reservations?

Do you think it's possible to just walk into a restaurant without reservations and not have to wait a long time? I was thinking that if we went to dinner at a restaurant when it first opens maybe there would be an opening. Has anyone ever done this and did it work out okay?

We're not really making any daily plans, just winging it and I thought that making reservations would tie us down.

I would suggest making PS for sure! I have called for the past few days to see about openings for rooms throughout most of October- and they are booked- at least for DVC rooms and AP discount rooms. CRO is amazed at how busy they are this October! So- I guess you could take your chances, but I would definetly makes arrangements if I were you.

There are also no cast discounted rooms available for most of October either. We are going Oct. 23-Nov. 1 and will be making most of my PS in the next day or 2. If you wanted character dining, you are probably out of luck at this point. I've seen many threads with sad faces because folks can not get in to some character meals. We have our favorite places, so they are a must. We don't make too many, but at least one a day. It's better to have them, than not. We don't make any for breakfast, just the places we like to eat at the parks (the Plaza, 50s Prime Time, Hollywood & Vine).

Oct. is a very busy time for disney...there is a Golf classic, halloween parties, food/wine fest starts...and I am sure there is more than that going on. Those just come to mind right now.

If you really want to eat somewhere, I would suggest ps's, if it really doesn't matter, then just play it by ear.

Have fun!

Thanks for the information. I'll have to pick out a couple of the restaurants that we don't want to miss and make those reservatons.

We had friends that went down last October and were so surprised to find long waits at the restaurants their first few days. After two days they phoned ahead and made ps's for the rest of their trip and had a much better time. So yes, do make ps's for those "must-do's!" I usually make one a day for our trips and the rest we just wing or do counter service.
