Is "Modern Family" no longer funny, or is it just me?

Okay, so I'm just curious. I've watched Modern Family since it premiered and my fiancé, Trent, and I have always really enjoyed it. Last season, though, I started to find it a little less funny than normal. My fiancé disagreed, for the most part, because he's incredibly loyal to the show... lol. But this season, we've both been cringing more than laughing. For us, it's kind of like the special "spark" that made it funny has gone out. My fiancé couldn't even finish last night's episode, he thought it would so bad... Are we the minority, or is anyone else finding it less entertaining lately???

I'm on your side thinking maybe the show has jumped the shark... Found no laughs in the first two episodes

I'd definitely have to agree, it's going downhill fast. I noticed such a sharp decline in the humor/writing that I was genuinely surprised they won an Emmy for last season. Didn't deserve it, IMO. A shame, too, because it used to be one of my favorite shows! :(

We are faithful viewers and although I love the show, it has always had cringe worthy moments for me where they took things just a bit too far. I haven't seen this week's show yet.

It did that for me at the beginning of LAST season. I was watching the first episode, nervous because I knew they'd announce Gloria's pregnancy and have to deal with the disrupted adoption Cam and Mitchell went through. My husband and I had just-literally, days before, decided we'd have to end our process to adopt a second child and I was absolutely heartbroken. They are sitting there sad and giving all the same reasons my husband and I had been using to try to convince ourselves to feel better. In waltzes Lily and asks something along the lines of "where's my baby brother?" I burst into tears and just lost it, sobbing, asking my husband to get this junk off my tv.

So that was obviously way too close to home for me and I haven't watched it since. While I was actually glad they showed some of the hard stuff that goes along with adoption, it was just too hard at that point. Haven't watched it since.

It's definitely gotten less funny as the years has gone on. It doesn't seem to have the sustainability they hoped for, that a Friends or Seinfeld did.

I have to agree. It has declined rapidly. I love Sophia Vegara, but her character is starting to annoy me. Constant references to her looks, how sexy she is etc. We get it. She is stunning. I am bored with Phil and Claire, and I used to love their interactions. Cam used to be sooooo funny, I still like him and Mitch but it's just lost something. Sometimes a show should call it quits while it's on top instead of dragging on season after season. Not sure if it has run it's course or if the writers have changed/are out of ideas?

I used to laugh out loud, now it's just a few chuckles.

I agree with pretty much everyone's comments, but especially this one. I used to think Gloria was a really fun character, and now it's like they're overusing her or something because she's completely getting on my nerves. Phil, Claire, and Cam, too. Also---when did they make Cam into a super-farmboy? The last couple of episodes have completely changed his personality! :sad2:

I feel the same. Also, they make Gloria so annoying, she is always talking loudly...."JAY JAY"! :crazy2: and they make Lily seem bratty all the time. The show has definitely lost something.

I read this thread going "NO! I LOVE MODERN FAMILY! STOP! IT IS FUNNY!" out of love for the show...

...but being honest with myself, I have been disappointed :(

That's how we feel too about Gloria. Got to the point we just don't like her character anymore. I think she lays on the accent way too thick sometimes too.

We use to love this show but now it seems to stay mainly unwatched on our DVR list. Haven't even watched this years episodes.

Agree with the comments about Gloria. She's begun to make my head ROAR and I've stopped watching because of her.

With Gloria, it's the same thing over and over. She says something in her accent, is misunderstood because of her accent, someone references how voluptuous she is, she gets mad, gestures wildly, shakes her chest and storms off. I wish they would use her more as an actress. I loved when she used to have more heart to hearts with Manny.

I haven't been watching for that long so for me I guess it's stil fresh. The only thing I do not like is Gloria's new hair colour!

Glad I'm not alone about Gloria! I actually have some friends who won't watch Modern Family simply because of her accent. Of course, I don't think she's the main problem. It's more about the bad storylines, poor writing, etc. She's just the icing on the really bad cake. Lol. Phil used to be my favorite, and even he's getting boring! It's kind of the same old shtick with him, too.
