Is "Modern Family" no longer funny, or is it just me?

Thanks for the link. I do agree with the author that the pilot episode was pretty exceptional. That said, all I know is that this season---and last season, for that matter---has been "off." At least to me. My fiancé has never once quit watching an episode halfway through because he got bored, but the other night he did. Even I had to agree with him and I didn't get around to finishing it until yesterday afternoon---it only got worse as the minutes ticked by, IMHO. My fiancé even refused to finish it. They used to be able to blend the storylines and focus a little on all or most of the characters without making the episode seem cluttered, busy or forced. Now it seems like all of those things and more. The first episode of this season, for example, which focused on Cam and Mitch's proposals to each other, was a disaster. I didn't laugh once and it gave me a headache. The second episode---there were two back-to-back, for those not in the know---wasn't much better. It's just bland. And unfunny. At least to me it is. :guilty: I do hope they can pull this show back from the grave, but looking at the positive comments on this thread, and the solid ratings it's getting (not to mention the Emmys), the show can probably keep going like this for several more years without the quality they used to have. If that is the case, though, you can bet I won't be watching. :sad2:

I used to find the Dunphys hysterical. Loved all of them, especially Luke & Phil. They're getting less and less funny as the series goes along, though. Lily is atrocious. The least humorous, yet most annoying, character on the show. That cat funeral episode? Awful! It was so unrealistic! When did Modern Family turn into a cartoon? Gloria's just... ergh. I won't even discuss her because it'll take too long. Jay's kind of sliding more and more into the background this season, which is too bad because I've always enjoyed Jay. They're hardly even focusing on the kids---Luke, Haley, Alex and Manny, that is. I'm guessing this is because the kids are getting older, a fact which becomes even more glaringly obvious with each passing season. Anyone else notice Luke's deep voice? Hmm. Maybe that has something to do with him being shoved into the background lately, along with Jay and some of the others? It's not so much Modern Family anymore, but Modern Gloria, Cam, Mitch & Lily. When the heck did that happen? Just my two cents... ;) Also, as a side note, my ten-year-old turned to me the other night when we were watching this week's episode and said, "Can we put something else on? This is painful." Lol!

Phil and Jay were always my favorites. I still like the show, but sometimes I think it is over the top.

I agree that part of it may be the kids getting older. Luke is def changing, growing, going through puberty so the cute little odd-ball luke is not so cute or little anymore, and the odd-ball no longer works. It also changes the dynamic between him and Phil.

The two daughters are uninteresting. One is the dumb, boy crazy community college dropout. The other is the dateless over-achiever. It's been played out. It's not funny anymore.

I still like it very much. Now that it is showing every afternoon in syndication, I have been re-watching some old episodes, and the new ones hold up just as well IMO. I'll watch and laugh along until the series ends.

I still love the show. And if I miss it primetime, I'm catching up on as soon as possible online.

I'd take multiple blah episodes of Modern Family over one episode of the K's anyday

This week's MF episode may have been below average, but I don't get the feeling they have "jumped the shark". I just didn't feel the chemistry between Cam & Pam that exists between other members of the cast. I believe it is still the best comedy currently running on TV.

There's too many "good shows" to watch to settle for mediocrity. Modern Fam was great when it first started. Now? Not so much. I might not tune in anymore. What's the point if it only leads to complaining the next day? LOL. I'll just stick to Web Therapy, How I Met Your Mother, Shark Tank, and 90s sitcom reruns. popcorn::

I was thinking the same thing...its like they are trying to hard or something :confused3 I think the baby being possessed is stupid and I think they have gone to far over to the to serious side of things....

I hope they don't take it to political because they will loss me all together...and it was always one of my fav comedies...I like "the Millers" now.... :thumbsup2

Yep and yep! I hate shows that get all political. I don't know about anyone else, but for me, I watch sitcoms in order to GET AWAY FROM the politics and upsetting subjects of real life, not DIVE INTO THEM! It just defeats the purpose for me. Also, my fiancé said the same thing about the baby being possessed lol. What has happened to their storylines?? Seriously! That one was so weak and so weird, considering the baby's never showed signs of being demonic before. Man, I hate continuity errors. :sad2: (And yes, I know that doesn't exactly qualify as a continuity error... but it still bugs me.)

I think the "baby possession" thing was more to outline Gloria's superstitious nature and to make fun of her. Baby is obviously not possessed!!

I didn't think it was funny to begin with. Watched the first episode and didn't watch more.

I was starting to think I was the only one who didn't get it. I tried to like this show, I really did. But I didn't like any of the characters so I gave up.

I agree. And The Middle has gone downhill too.

I think Modern family has become a parody of it's former self....not a good thing. :headache:I think the Middle continues to be one of the best shows on t.v. (now that's funny):rotfl:

Yeah, but to that end, even someone superstitious wouldn't just claim their baby is possessed without a shred of evidence. I think it actually would've worked better had they shown the baby being naughty in past episodes. Then you almost (almost) could've bought it. LOL.

I was just coming to look up the old thread. Tonight was the best one in 2 years. The end was great. Loved Phil's suit......esp. when it split. Maybe the writers have gotten the message.
