I'm planning a trip for MLK weekend in January..
I get off school so I can make it a 5 night trip...
The pros are its cheaper because of value season..
the cons are if its crowded that weekend than whats the point of going in January then?

I'm thinking about missing college for two days and going a different week :rotfl: :rotfl:

advice?

We went a few years ago. The only "busy" day was the Monday (MLK day) and the following Tuesday. I think more people take the Tuesday off after the holiday. The Thursday before the long weekend (we went Wednesday night thru Tuesday) was a ghost town! We got a ton done on the Thursday and early Friday before the crowds swelled a bit.

We had planned on Animal Kingdom for the Monday holiday, but now with EE, that park will probably be busy. I'd say go to Epcot on the Monday.

Have fun - and don't be skipping any of those way expensive college days!! LOL!

We went in 2006 from January 11-22 (the Wed before to the weekend after MLK). The ONLY busy day we had was the Saturday of the MLK weekend, and we used our fastpasses wisely at Epcot to avoid waits on anything. Line times during the entire vacation were very low.

I think as long as you go early, use Fast Pass, and make advanced dining reservations at the restaurants that you really want to eat at, then you should be fine.

I was thinking that maybe avoiding EMH might be a good idea, then again, a lot of park goers on the actual holiday might be FL residents. Therefore, they won't have access to EMH, so maybe it would work to your advantage if you are staying on property.

We went for MLK weekend in 2004 & it wasn't too bad at all. We had a pretty drizzly weekend so that might have kept crowds down.

Like Harambe said, better to go then - hit the Parks early & use fastpasses than miss those expensive college days

We attended Friday through Tuesday of MLK weekend this year. Friday at MJM was not bad at all. Saturday at MK got crowded by the afternoon but we were there at opening and managed our fastpasses. Longest wait was about 15 minutes. Spectromagic parade on Saturday night was very empty. My niece and I kept riding the Jungle Cruise and Aladin Carpets with no wait while we waited for the parade. Sunday we went to Epcot at opening and again managed our time and fast passes. Go with a plan. Sunday night at the MK EMH was a madhouse and I would strongly suggest against it. Go on Saturday night to the MK. This was my first time to WDW in January and I felt it was the least crowded of all times I have visited (February, March, April, mid-May, June, July, August, T-giving week and Christmas). Hope this helps!

i'm worried about the crowds too, but i just booked my vacation and said who cares. i can't imagine that the crowds will be any worse than in the summer and since that's the only time i've ever really been there recently, i could put up with anything i think! i just made all the adrs that i wanted and i actually got first dibbs on basically every place (i have 6 pm for teppanyaki and boma and noon for le cellier).
