We're thinking of going the week of February 28th. Anyone been that time of year? I know it's considered peak season, but how are the crowds? Is it really that bad?

That is when we are planning on going. It's the week after President's week so I am guessing it won't be to bad. Hopefully someone will respond that has been there the week after to see how the crowds were.

Mardi Gras is on Feb 28 in 2006, which is the week after President's Week. I think Disney usually considers that Peak Season, but they still usually offer some good AP and other discount rates during that time.
As for crowds, many schools around here (New Orleans area) are off all week for Mardi Gras, and it always seems like a lot of people down there then. It's become a joke that you may go years w/out seeing people you know who live in your town, but you always run into them at Disney during Mardi Gras! That said though, I've read websites that rank MG week a "4" on a 1-10 scale of how crowded the parks are. I'm sure the weather is nice, too, so I'd say go for it!

We were at WDW during Mardi Gras this past Feb, but it was also Daytona 500 weekend too!! So it was busy with both groups of people. The Mardi Gras people were fun to be around, they were handing out beads and just lively people!! It was busy but not a real problem. :flower:

I go for Mardi Gras every year, and will be back in 2006. MG fell during that week in 2003, and crowds were light BUT that was when tourism was still down, so I think it's anyone's guess what it will be like next year. I agree with dck12ga that this past year was crowded for reasons other than MG but there are still quite a bit of people not just from LA in WDW, but other gulf coast areas that celebrate MG.

Don't forget, not only was it the Daytona 500 this year, but the Superbowl, as well...during mardi gras. We were down there and it was definately busier than it has been that same week in previous years. It was the first full week in Feb this year.
