Is Labor Day weekend unbearable??

Trying to decide which week in August to take the family to WDW....have really only been in September before (which had practically NON-EXISTENT crowds!). If we decide on the last week in August (23rd to maybe September 1st or 2nd), is Labor Day weekend totally insane with crowds? I mean....I wouldn't attempt MK anyway on a Saturday, so I won't even think about going there, but how about maybe Epcot or even taking the day to go (gasp!) offsite to SeaWorld?

Any opinions/suggestions greatly appreciated!!

Sammy

Labor Day weekend is usually crowded but not unbearable crowds. Saturday and Sunday will be worst with a noticeable decrease on Monday.

The weather, on the other hand, can be oppressively sticky.

Thanks, PammyK.....

I'm not looking forward to the heat either, but the last time we were at WDW in late Sept 2000, the weather was in the 90's almost every day, so I'm hoping it can't be much worse than that in August!! We'll just take some pool time in the afternoons.

Anyone else with any ideas for the Labor Day weekend?

I didn't notice crowds being that bad Labor Day weekend in 2000 - I would suggest doing Epcot or Animal Kingdom on Saturday or Sunday....No Magic Kingdom the weekend of Labor Day for sure. We're going back again 8/30 through 9/6 - the crowds are so light.

From our experience (10 years of Labor Day week-ends) the only bad day is Saturday and in the MK. I wish we could go during this time this year, but my son's school schedule has changed and he starts before Labor Day (I hate this!!!) now. I would also avoid DD Saturday night as there are many area residents who spend the evening there.

Have a Wonderful Vacation!!!!

I am wondering about this ,also. We DO plan to go to DD on the Saturday before Labor Day.I guess we should try to go a little early and eat around 5:00 or so. Will it just be crazy??
What about doing stuff at the Boardwalk that weekend? We are not going to the parks but do want to go to both DD and Boardwalk.

I went with my niece last Labor Day weekend and found the crowds not bad at all. I thought it was more crowded over MLK weekend. My Labor Day trip was my best ever, and I'm trying to figure out how to go again at that time.

We did it Labor Day 2001. It was HOT and HUMID!!!!!! Awfully hot and humid. I counted how many times I filled my water bottle during the course of the day. 128 oz. of water I drank!! (and only 1 bathroom stop all day. Sweated all the excess liquid out of me it was so hot) It was very crowded in the MK on Sat. night. 85 min. waits on Splash Mt. The lines waiting for the buses when the parks closed were bad. We were glad we were staying at the Poly and could just hop the monorail to our hotel. Monday, the day we left, the crowds had diminished. I'm glad I went for a quick trip, but not sure I'd do it again as we didn't get to go on as many attractions due to the crowds.

I guess it depends on where you are coming from. I'm from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and I never find Orlando to be more humid than home... :)

We'll be at WDW 8/29-9/7 this year and I was wondering this also. We have been to WDW the week after Labor Day before (in 2000), but this will be our first experience being there over the holiday weekend. I was planning to avoid the MK at all costs, except maybe to do early entry on Sunday morning. The heat and humidity were oppressive in the afternoons in 2000 as I remember it, so I think we'll make good use of the pool at our resort.

We're going 9/1-9/8. 9/1 is Labor Day.

So am relieved that the crowds tend to die down. Am somewhat concerned about the "Nights of Joy" that Friday and Saturday. That blows any chance for us to see Spectro or Fireworks. Don't want to pay for that special ticket and think will be a giant mob scene. Have everything crossed in hopes of an E night for 9/2.

We will do EE though on Sunday.

Weather is my remaining concern! Heat and humidity we don't know in Colorado!

KLRI, what resort will your family be at?

Sharon

Hightown, we'll be at the Wilderness Lodge. I can't wait! We've got a 2yr. old son so we weren't planning to try to catch Spectromagic or the fireworks at MK, so the Night of Joy didn't impact our plans. I remember being disappointed about it in 2000 though.

I see that you'll be the YC Concierge--sounds wonderful.
