We meet up with friends from work for a dinner every time we go to WDW. They are a family of 3 (they have DD2) and we will be a party of 3 (DD5). My boss treats us to dinner (even though he's not there), so we won't be using the DP. We met them at Cape May one year & her DH was not thrilled because he's not into seafood; went to Wolfgang Puck's last year but they did not love their food. They will be driving about 2 hours from where they live to meet us. I think a character meal would be too noisy to really talk, and we'd like to be able to get a drink, plus they'd prefer to not go to a park to eat since they don't have passes. We've never been to Kona, but I've heard great things about the food. We are going during free dining, so I've already made an ADR for the six of us. Did I make a good choice?

Kona is one of our favorites for dinner. They have good variety of food to chose from and everything has always been fantastic. Great place for the younger ones too!
I think it's a great choice..

I will drop in to Kona more than just about any other restaurant on property (except maybe Plaza Inn). It is very low key with good food and service, and you never feel rushed. And the noise level is fairly low as there is no "fun and games" to make the children act wild.

And the dessert part of their kitchen is a show kitchen.

The 2 and 5 year old may not be impressed but for the adults it doesn't get much better.

I have met people there twice - it's a good spot because you don't feel rushed to eat and get out, since they aren't as crammed with people nor do they have characters making the rounds - and it's not real loud and interactive. It's just tasty food with good service.

:cool1: :hippie: Great place and great food but the 2 and 5 year old may like Ohana better, lot of activity for the kids, singing and marching around Poly style, lots to eat, lots of meat. The restaurant is right next to Kona.

We are getting portraits at the Poly, then eating at Ohana for the first time in a few years. Didn't love it the last time we went, but we're going to give it another try.

I love Kona Café but it sounds like your friends might be picky eaters. Why not try something Like Olivia's at Old Key West? It's a bit more mainstream.

I really didn't mean that I was in love with Ohana but I would go again (maybe to much meat and was very loud more for like real young kids to parade around and ME and DW were right on the parade route) The food at Kona is much better but the atmosphere for the kids may be better at Ohana. So you really have one thing or the other, real good food or kid friendly atmosphere and I don't know if there is any one place at WDW the has both?
Wow and you are going in 2 weeks have a great time.
