I was wondering what other people's thoughts were on the heat/humidity in Florida during July or August. Which month is hotter? :confused3

I don't think there's much of a difference, heat wise....I believe August (mid to late August?) is usually the official start of Hurricane season.

OMG, I'm going with my family in August (2nd-23rd), do they get many Hurricanes?

Actually June is the official start of hurricane season. Orlando is inland, so they can't really get hurricanes as there are no oceans directly around Orlando. EXCEPT if there is a monster hurricane such as Andrew - my cousins were caught in that, and even Orlando got hit, but that is an exception.

Orlando gets what the hurricane leaves in terms of rain or storms. Orlando does get tornadoes though, so when it's hot and humid, that is the ideal weather for it. We've been many times in July/August when the sky turned green, and there were tornado warnings, and it was fine. Disney is fabulous at closing rides or cancelling stuff if need be due to the weather.

July is pretty much the same heat/humidity as August - it's very hot! We come from an area that is pretty identical to the same summer weather as Orlando, so we are used to it.

Stay cool, Tiger

August will be hotter and more humid (heat index well above 100 degrees). August is the most hottest and humid month of the year in the South. However, July isn't much different. June through December is Hurricane Season. Sometime between late August through mid September is when you will usually see the first hurricane. As far as whether or not Orlando can get a hurricane, yes! It all depends how strong the hurricane is when it makes landfall and how quickly it is moving accross land. If the hurricane is a category 5 when it makes landfall, you better believe Orlando may be feeling category 3 force winds. Now, if the hurricane makes landfall as a category 3, Orlando will probably only feel tropical storm or tropical depression force winds.

After you reach 95 or so, what does it matter? July feels just as hot as August. I've been twice in July and it's terrible. I have a picture of my cousin's ds at 7:30 am waiting for the monorail - there's sweat dripping from him. It was 90 degrees and humid (yes at 7:30 am). Make sure you wear lightweight, light colored clothing and drink water constantly all day to keep from getting dehydrated. You will be thankful for the frigid AC in the attractions, gift shops, and restaurants.

And we only go in the off season now after that last trip.

Strictly speaking about heat/humidity - not enough of a difference to tell. Both are hot and humid. Go down a few days early to acclimatize before you start walking around in the parks and you will be fine. Otherwise, take it slow the first few days...

The heat index will be 115 on some days in August. Trust me, you can tell the difference between July and August. The heat index between July and August is not that much of a difference, but you can tell it is hotter in August.

Unfortinately...YES its hot and rainy both of those months in FL. If you do choose to venture down during the summer months expect extreme heat and humidity, crowds and to take a break as much as possible! Especially if you have little ones. KEEP HYDRATED and bring along ponchos for the rainy afternoons.

The hottest that I have ever been in WDW was actually in June....but July and August are just as hot!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plan wisely!

I see your from Canada. Do you complain about the cold in Ontario in January and February?

The heat gives you an initial punch in the face when you first step outside but immediately after that you get used to it. Just try to stay in the shade whenever possible, drink plenty of fluids and you'll be fine. :thumbsup2

It is brutally hot and humid from June-Sept in Florida.Hurricaines are also a possibility and Hurricaine season for the Atlantic is June 1st thru Nov 30th

I went in July a few years ago & I swear it was hotter then August that trip but I was also a few months pregnant so it could of just been me...well my dh & parents said it was hot too & the ice we were giving our 2 other kids to play with in the stroller immediately melted.

I say as long as you get to the park for opening & leave mid day for a swim/nap & much needed shower and then go back at night you will be OK.
