Is it worth renting a car from the all stars?

We are going to disney in January and staying at ASMo. Is it worth renting a car, I have multiple discounts I can use and get one fairly cheap, since we will be there over the cheerleader event or will the busses be ok? I have 2 older children, not yet teens but close, who can walk but none of us like to wait in line and hate crowded busses. We experienced this when we went to disneyland in 2003 and stayed off-site, YUCK!!! princess: pirate:

We never rent a car. However, when my parents come with us they have a car and it is pretty handy to have. I think it depends on what you want to spend your money on. I would rather spend that couple of hundred dollars on Disney rather than a car.

But when you want to go to the Boardwalk resort or other resorts all you do is drive up and park.

But the buses are pretty good running back and forth from parks to resorts. I understand not wanting to wait in lines. We usually leave at times when there will not be a long line. Like at MK we leave before the park closes. It gets crazy at park closing.

So to sum up - if you want to save money dump the car. If you don't car go for it!

We stayed at all-star Movies in September and found the busses to be insanely crowded and a very slow way to get around.

The bus trip back to the resort from MK took 40 minutes to get on a vehicle where everyone was packed in like sardines. :crowded: This appeared to be much more the case for the at-capacity value resorts than it was for the moderate and deluxe ones.

I was kicking myself for not getting a rental car to avoid this madness. :drive:

we always rent a car and use it. I like that I can just hop in my car and get to where I want to go when I want to. Parking is free at the parks for onsite guests, so you can come and go from the parks.

There really isn't a happy medium. THere are people who never rent cars and would never do it, there are people who rent cars and say they never use them and then you have the die hard car renters like me who can't imagine not going without a car.

We went in Oct and I planned driving our car everywhere. It never left the hotel parking lot. The buses were not bad at all. The longest trip was 20 mins but that was at the closing of MK.

We've done it both ways and are having a hard time deciding what to do this year. Our kids are young (DS6 & DD2), so having a car was really great. But, we did feel it somehow took away some of the magic. If you can imagine that... we really felt the buses, while sometimes slow and crowded made us feel like we were more in the action. When we drove our own vehicle, we didn't interact much with other guests and went straight from the room to our car without experiencing much of the resort. On the flip side, when we didn't have a car we had a few problems with the bus service. I recall two evenings when we did late dinners at other resorts. It was after the parks closed when we finished dinner. We waited at the bus stops in the cold, then had to bus to DD to catch a bus to our resort. It was awful!!!!! The best advice I could give - which I'm considering doing this trip - is to skip the car and use the buses, BUT if you don't feel like waiting for a bus or don't want to fight the crowds, grab a taxi. They are always nearby or can be called on a moments notice. You'll have the best of both worlds and will probably save a few bucks... I forgot to mention that we stayed at Pop, not the AS.

When is the cheerleading event in January???? We avoid the values during these times but are planing to stay at POPS Jan 20 -27. Oh, I hope we did not goof!!!

We have stayed at ASMo during January and found the bus to be very easy and not too bad crowded. We however have been spoiled by deluxe and have not been at a value in a while. I hope we have not hit a bad week!!!!!!!!!!1

We rode the bus for two days while staying at All Star Movies and swore that we would rent a car from that point on as long as we have a stroller with us. Getting a double stoller on a crowded bus without bumping others is about impossible and DH and I hate to be the ones that are bothering others. We're giving Disney tranportation a little bit of a chance, but only for the WL portion of the vacation.

Last year we stayed at All star Sports and at the end of our trip the :cheer2: came in. The busses did not seem that crowded.

I am a best of both worlds person. I always have a car....great for the grocery stop from the airport, DTD and AKL. NEVER for MK (even if you wait a little for the bus, the bus goes right to the entrance, where the car is the car to the tram to the monorail or boat, no time savings there). We will use it for Epcot or MGM if not hoping.
