planning a 6 day stay and the yacht club and polynesian are so many points, especially weekends. Since all villas are booked for memorial weekend, these are an option for me to use my points. has anyone stayed here, what did you think. with yacht club you can use the sab pool at beach club. poly seems to have a lot of activities? Is it worth all those points?

When is your UY? You can't book non-DVC in the last four months of your UY.

I am within the 8 month window, so I think I can book at yacht club or poly, correct?

IMHO - It is never "WORTH IT" to use DVC points anywhere other than DVC resorts about 95% of the time - DLR , Disney Paris and the Royals in Cancun are some of the few exceptions over the years.

I've stayed at the Poly and YC with cash and both are fantastic resorts - I just wouldn't "waste" my DVC points on them -- but I personally have a hard time using them anywhere other than OKW.

I use a simplistic formula in evaluating , take the toal points needed and multiply it by $10 - if you can get the same for less cash , rent the points and make a cash ressie.

Well, I have never understood the appeal of the Poly. It's basically a fancy "outdoor" access hotel LOL! No hot tub, basic Disney accomodations. (Sorry Disney putting a fancy lobby in does NOT make you a "Deluxe" hotel!) etc.

As for they YC, why not see if you can get BCV? You get the pool for less points. And once again, YC is Disney "deluxe" not true deluxe. LOL!

The $95 transfer fee has stopped me from considering anything other than DVC Resorts. But then again I only have 210 points and I think if you have a huge amount of points, then money or point usage is probably not an issue. I've stayed at the Poly twice on a cash basis years ago and it really hasn't much changed, I'd give the Yacht Club a try, if for the Steakhouse alone!

We have traded points into the Poly once, and are thinking of five nights in YC next year. They are your points. Do what makes you happy.

are you on a wait list for DVC
and have you checked out the DVC cash discount

Okay, I'm confused. I thought you were saying you were booking for Memorial Day. That is only a couple WEEKS away, not 8 months away.

First of all, no, I do not think it is worth that many points to stay in a regular hotel room rather than a DVC resort. Deb & Bill is right about not being able to book that in the last 4 months of your use year, and if February is your use year, this month is DEFINITELY in the last 4 months of your use year.

Are you perhaps confusing use year with booking windows? To be at the 7 month booking window, a reservation for May 26 would have been made October 26th.

How can May be within the last 4 months of a February UY?

If you can pay the price, $95 and points, have a great time at the Yacht Club. We would love to stay there some day!

DUH!!! Like I said, I was confused! LOL! Can't count today, I guess!

I just received my dvc points, ink not dry yet. I have an existing bc hotel reservation that I tried to switch to the villas, but not available at this close to memorial weekend. I am on the wait list, but it will not come thru this late in the game. so, to use my points I thought, yacht club, but it is a lot of points. my uy is feb. I can book a reservation since it is not in the last 4 months, jan, dec, nov, or oct. and my banking window is sept. I wanted opinions on how nice yacht club is and is it worth using all the points necessary to stay there. believe it is 88 points weekends and 48 during week water view. I can not use the cruise because the paperwork will not be recorded until may 29, even thought there is a cruise may 22-25 which could use my points. Somehow, everyone stated telling me that I could not book the reservation. Would like opinions on anyone who has used there points for yacht club, an outside disney resort.

Kfalsey, the Yacht Club is a nice resort, but the point most folks are trying to make is that the per night point cost is VERY high for a regular hotel room, where staying in a DVC resort would give you a bigger and better room for far less points. The point is that they are your points to use as you want, and if you don't mind paying the equivelent of about 320 points plus the $95 exchange fee, then go for it. They are your points to use as you want. I personally woud probably not do that though. I assume you are probably staying over the weekend, so that means at least 2 nights at 88 per, and that is almost enough for a GV at OKW on some weekends. Just no comparison in value, and that is why most folks think staying at non-DVC hotels isn't the best idea.

We have used our points to stay at both and at the GF. I would do it again (not the GF though). We had 2 wonderful rooms (down several long hallways) at the YC w/ 2 great balconies that overlooked the lake and the BW. And the mousekeeping staff there was particularly nice to us. I loved staying at the Poly, too. We were on the ground floor overlooking a lagoon and could see the castle in the distance. This time next week, we'll be using points to stay at the Grand Californian for our first trip to Disneyland. No, it's not the best use of points, but they were memorable stays, and, isn't that the point? (no pun intended) :cool2:

We used our points once to stay at the CR, but probably would not do it again. This was during spring break and we did a last minute trip. I guess we were "lucky" to get the CR, which was mobbed with vacationers. We enjoy the CR and have stayed there often in the past, but we really missed the space and other amenities at OKW.

Hey-if it gets you to Disney then go for it and have fun!! also-Welcome Home!!!!

Are these points that you need to use? If so, both resorts are great. We prefer the Polynesian as the rooms are much larger. We also love the longhouses. You have the security of interior corridors but a feeling of being away from it all. It is a deluxe resort in every respect IMO. Not a luxury resort like a Ritz Carlton but certainly a deluxe resort.

And so is the YC. SAB is a great pool and there are many restaurants in the hotel complex as well as at BW. But both Y&BC have long hallways which I don't like. Plus you hopefully will have the chance to enjoy SAB on another trip to BCV.

If you can save the points and keep your cash reservation for this trip, that's what I would do.

Personally love the atmosphere and monorail access of the Poly, in fact the Poly and AKL rank as my 1 and 2 all time fave resorts!

DW and I are beginning to look at our 2010 points, which also falls as our 10 year anniversary, and we've dreamed since getting married of staying at the Poly...but the points are just not worth it in the end to us. We can use less points per night and get a 2 BR at our home resort, which gives A LOT more room and IMO is a much better use of our investment.

And add on the $95 transaction fee...I'm already putting out enough $$$ with MF to pay more...just the way we are.

Absolutely love the Poly--not sure about YC. Just not the best use of points for us.

and we felt it was not worth the points. We also felt it would not be worth the $$ either. We had to use our points by November, and had canceled a previous vacation, so could not use them at a DVC. We were able to transfer to BC after the six nights, and my party kept asking why we hadn't just stayed there in the first place. I explained the point thing to them and still they requested that we would never stay there again (along with myself). We did have a water view room, at the farthest end of the resort, and were one room from the last one on our floor/ building/ resort. The room also was not cleaned well during 5 of the six nights we were there. Dirty towels which were left by housekeeping and then were not replaced when we left them to be, and a business card under the pillow (from apparently the last guest), showed us this was also already the case before we arrived. For the cost, the room would have been equivalent to a 2 and a half star hotel, with nice sheets and towels (as opposed to the Disney values and moderates- which I have also tried). Really the location is what the Deluxe label should be applied to. I understand that the YC has a loyal following, but this was our opinion of our stay, and we would not recommend this hotel to anyone who was not getting a serious discount on the rack rates.
I hope this perspective sheds some light on our stay back in October/November, and aids you in your decision process. I have also stayed at the Contemporary in one of the Garden wings, and at the Grand Floridian (can't remember which type of room, but I seem to remember it being close to the main building -I didn't book it, it was part of a package with a friend), and liked them both better, but must repeat they are not worth the points, and would only stay at them if I could possibly get a great discount/package, because ultimately it all boils down to " Value for Location, Location, Location".
