Is it worth a trip from NY?

With the price increase coming June 1st and NY not being registered do you think it would be worth a one night trip to buy at BCV? Also would DVC give any incentive like maybe a one night hotel room or a free dinner.
Thanks for your you help!

My husband didn't receive anything that he didn't pay for, except for the standard sign-on gifts (rucksack with luggage tag and litho). They even mentioned to him that he was the 100th signer for the week, as part of their ongoing acknowledgement of Walt's 100th bday (and it was only Tues at noon). They knew that he had just flown in from NY and was returning the same day. I even asked my guide about a meal voucher, knowing that DVC had given them out in the past to those who attended the on-site presentations. But no, nothing extra. Oh wait, he did grab a handfull of saltwater taffy from the office! Other than that, he only came home with a mound of papers and the happiness of finally joining DVC (when we should have done it four years ago)!

Maybe you will have better luck.

It was worth it about 6 weeks ago with that great incentive they had with free nights or $5 off points and you got to keep them.

Of course it is worth it if you are purchasing 150 points that is $750 difference between now and 6/1. Figure $250 for plane ride and another $100 for everything else you are still making out. What are you waiting for more expensive points. Jet Blue out of Kennedy, check them out.

We did this last April before a price increase (I think $5/point). We bought 250 points so it did make a difference. We received a voucher for free lunch on the Boardwalk.

How much of a cost benefit will depend on the points you want to buy.

I just spoke to the DVC guide and your right they give a big nothing as far as incentives or rooms. They also said that DVC has no plans to extend the 75$ a point plan for NY after 6/1. The place is great put the DVC people were alot nicer when they had you infront of them.

steppy21,

It doesn't hurt to ask;) , I would also mention you are a member of the NYFD:) , it may help to get a 1 nite stay. Even if they say no:( , the decision should be made if you want DVC or not.In my opinion it is the best investment we have ever made!!:D

In all seriousness, as opposed to my previous post, flying down to purchase before the price increase is well worth it, IMO.

I am assuming that this would be your initial purchase (and obviously you want to buy into BCV, since at HH and VB NYers could purchase through the mail). If it is just you, one person, going down, you could make a same day, roundtrip flight (i.e. Delta out of LGA, aka the "aircraft carrier", on the 29th) for about $155, and get an economy rental car for about $25-30, sign your papers and still have some time to buy yourself lunch and/or dinner while you are at the Boardwalk, before you need to head back to the airport.

If you do the minimum 150 point purchase, the above scenario will net you about $525--enough to buy 7 more points at the $75 price, which you will surely find yourself wanting, shortly after signing those papers!

If your initial purchase is for 165 pts, you would save enough to buy 8 more points! If your initial purchase is 180 pts, you would save enough to buy 9 more points! If ...

(I think I made my point:crazy: )

DH and I did the same last March to purchase at VWL; we rented points for two nights there and had a mini vaca alone too. Now we've decided to make it an annual event. A wise couple told us ten years ago when we had our first daughter that every couple should go away alone even for a night every year. We've done it faithfully and it's really a gift to the children- kinder, gentler parents and more loving ones too! We did learn from our mistakes though; this year we went for three nights (last week.) It made a big difference!!!! So look at it as a pleasure trip too...!

Well I will be calling my guide tomorrow to verify this info. If they do not retroactively at least allow the $75/pt (in the event that NY is not approved by June 1st) I will NOT be a happy camper!!

Steppy21 I've been trying to convince DH to go down to add on at BCV maybe with a little persuasion from you and the friends fly free with Southwest we can both go down. What do you say will you try to convince him for me? I'm up for a quick trip and if you were going he'd probably agree! . See you on the baseball field

Where does Southwest fly out from? My DH and I were just discussing the same thing, one of us should take an early flight and come back that same evening. I don't know if it's worth all the trouble for 150 points. Kids, school, work, flight and expenses for the day, getting to airport, etc, etc. It does sound good - we should all meet and go down :)

Southwest flys out of MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma (airport code ISP), which is about 60 miles from Staten Island. Southwest's popular Friends Fly Free offer is NOT available on same day roundtrip flights and their single passenger "discount" fares are on the high side when compared to the competition. However, if you are going to Orlando anytime before October 25th AND you would be purchasing an even number of tickets, you can't beat the price of $224 for a PAIR of non-stop roundtrip tickets. I've haven't used them yet, but I've already booked flights with them for my trips to WDW (and visiting my parents) in July, August and October! The airport is about 35 miles from where I am at, but it is still cheaper to drive there and pay the day rate to park than it would to get a cab to and from JFK or LGA.

If you are interested in flying down and returning the same day, you should look into a flight with Delta which is about $155 (and is currently available for the 29th).

We are going to do it! We will fly down next Monday and come home on Wed. Our thought process was with the price on 6/1 it would cost us $1,000 more for 200 points. We figured that we might as well use the $1,000 dollars on a quick vacation alone for two day instead of giving it to DVC for nothing. Thanks to all for there support! Talk to you next as a member of DVD!:)

steppy21,

You made a "wise decision";) , enjoy your little getaway!!!!!!:D

AWESOME decision... where are you going to stay for your two night mini-vacation?

Nice going! Have a great time....we didn't want to spend a bunch on park passes last week when we did a three nighter...we made ressies and went to the 8 pm seating for the luau at Poly...it was very good!
