Is it true that you can call Madame Leota to the window? Anyone done it?

I read this and wondered if it true... and if anyone has done it?

"2nd ring in the pavement is a "fairy ring" formed by paving stones just beyond the well. This marks the spot where a huge oak tree once stood. If you stand in the middle of the fairy ring on the night of a full moon and call out "Leota" three times, she will come briefly to one of the upper windows of the mansion with her candle."

Never heard of this, and I claim to be a big HM fan.

It is written on quite a few disney fun facts websites? I wanted to ask before I am the strange women yelling out "Leota" on the night of a full moon in liberty square! LOL

If these websites also say how cool it is to find paintbrushes on Tom Sawyer Island and get FPs as rewards, just move along. ;)

Haha, well perhaps that is what I stumbled upon. It had me going.

That's the sister site to the DISboards. Some of that stuff looks accurate, and other stuff outdated at least. If your find was ever true, I'm sorry I never got to see it myself. :goodvibes

Perhaps I will have to be the crazy lady on the night of a full moon yelling in Liberty square for Madame Leota to know for certain. All in the pursuit of knowledge. LOL. Thanks for checking it out.

Wasn't there some rumor about shouting "George" or someone in POTC too?

:lmao: let us know if it is true. My husband and I wanted to hear the acoustics of the temple of heaven in the China pavillionone trip. That got us some looks.

In that one, George supposedly haunts PotC and causes mischief (breakdowns or whatever) when his name is called. Or isn't called. Or something like that.

Ok, if I am there on a full moon I will throw caution to the wind and call for her and report back to the disboards! :thumbsup2

Oh and how were the acoustics?

I have actually looked into this rumor. Supposedly, one of the engineers caught his fiancee having an affair with a colleague in the ride and rigged some sort of accident at the bottom of the drop that killed them. His ghost now haunts the ride, so if the CMs don’t greet him in the morning or tell him goodnight at night before they leave he wreaks havoc on the ride and there are lots of breakdowns.

I have heard of people that swear by it and read where the people reference never existed or that it was on the DL ride not the WDW ride.

In my 50-60+ rides (one year we did 25 in a week…my son is that big of a fan!) we never encountered George...:rolleyes1

I have also heard something similar about the DL HM. Not with Leota, just the window effect. Perhaps there is a candle effect in one of the upstairs DL windows? I know the 2 versions are quite different.

I had a friend who worked in adventureland when I was a CP. He told me that saying Good morning and good night to George was actually part of the opening and closing checklist.

I'd heard that he was one of the head imagineer working on the ride and that -somehow- he passed away during its construction. Due to the construction or otherwise escapes me now but at least that's the version I've heard.

. . . websites also say how cool it is to find paintbrushes on Tom Sawyer Island . . .

1) No longer done.
2) But, used to be a VERY popular hunt to get a free "anytime" family FP.
3) I think they stopped it in 2002.

Apparently there are a few versions:http://thewdwguru.com/disney-world-...-from-disney-worlds-pirates-of-the-caribbean/

As for the Madame Leota window sighting- I can find a few posts on various websites about it, all saying the same thing as the link that was posted here by a PP. I guess you are going to have to "take one for the team", OP, and try it out while you are there to see if it is true... :thumbsup2

Much later that that. Its been within my time here. It was during some long refurb of either BTMR or SM. Maybe right before FP+ came about because that was one of the reasons given for stopping it.

The version of the George George George story I read was that it was an imagineer involved in the construction of the ride, Supposedly he was working in / on a tower (I think in the burning village scene if I remember correctly) and fell to his death.

The ring in the pavement outside the exit of Haunted Mansion . . .. hasn't that vanished? I thought a few years back they had repaved that portion of the walkway and the ring had disappeared from the exit area.

They were still doing the paint brushes at least as late as 2008. It was after that when they did the big refurb on Big Thunder Mountain that they stopped hiding the brushes. At the time it was said to be because the only ride left that they could be used for was Splash, and that was already getting longer lines due to Big Thunder being closed, but after the refurb was done, the paint brushes never came back.
