Glad you are doing well.

Cruise in 13 days, still working on flexibility..

We're eating OOP on our upcoming trip to AKL. Can anyone describe the African Inspired Breakfast Platter that is on the menu at the Mara? We wish there was some place to just get eggs or eggs with bacon and/or sausage. Neither DH or myself are supposed to eat potatoes (sweet potatoes are fine) and DH is limited to 1 grain serving daily. I realize we can get the eggs with hash browns and biscuit and just throw away half of what is on the plate. We already know we'll stray from doctor's recommendation at Disney but are trying to keep within reason when possible. We have a pool view room, not a villa with a means to cook. The only yogurt I remember seeing in 2010 was a parfait with a sugary granola mixed in. If they have plain or fruit flavored yogurt that is another alternative for us.

 Just curious what time the fire and folk tale telling begin? Also wanted to know about viewing the animals with night goggles and what that process looks like? I'm planning a some AKV time where we really get to explore and enjoy the resort. I started a thread and realized I've got the pros right here. :thumbsup2

Can anyone offer any suggestions on where we mamas can score some drinks at night? Is there a bar or a bar area of a restaurant on site?

So I can do online check in today and wanted to ask about reservation requests since there has been some debate on other threads. We asked for a king bed and savannah view and are staying club level via reservation department and the concierge, however the requests are no showing up when I go to check in. Is this just because requests of that type cannot be confirmed until you physically arrive? I just want to make sure online check-in doesn't screw up my previous requests. I am emailing the concierge on this as well, but figured Dis-folks would have an answer from experience. Thanks!

Yes; Victoria Falls Lounge at Jambo House Just off the main lobby, one floor down. Just another short set of stairs down to Boma and Jiko restaurants. Relax & enjoy!

....I'm not sure what you are asking here, but, at the very least, you can stick them in an ice bucket with some ice? :confused3 Where do you want to store it? In the room? While at Boma?

I think she was asking where she can *score* some drinks..not *store* them.;)

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought all CL rooms had savannah views?:confused3

In any case, your room requests will not show on line. They are noted on the reservation and the cm should be able to see them when they pull it up.
That being said, I am not sure I would do online check in if you have specific rooms requests. Not because it will make a difference if you get them met or not, but more because online check in is for people who just want to grab their room package and keys and go... If you plan on discussing your room location when you get there..you best bet would be to skip online check in.:)

Just a quick stop by to let you know what a wonderful time I'm having at AKV. We checked in last Saturday and are checking out next Sunday. We usually stay at Jambo but decided this trip to try Kidani. It seems to be much quieter over here and fewer people at the pool but maybe that is because the slide is not open. :confused3 I haven't totally decided but I think I like Jambo better ... love being closer to Mara for a quick bite to eat. Also I seem to be one that likes to be in the middle of the action. The weather has been perfect .... nice and warm. :thumbsup2

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Unless things have changed in the past 2 years, you're correct. All the CL rooms have savannah views.

There USED to be some smoking CL rooms that had pool view...but when the Smoking rules changed, they went to regular inventory and were replaced with savannah view rooms.

So that's taken care of.

There ARE some King bed CL rooms..but not many.

On Jambo side of the resort:
Victoria Falls Lounge (as you enter the lobby, stairs just past the elevator on the right..on the way down to Boma/Jiko).

The pool bar (when you enter the lobby, you can either take the stairs just past the elevators on the right ALL the way down and then exit to the pool area, or take the elevators to your right down, and exit the same door).

On the Kidani side:
Sanaa has a lounge. Enter the lobby, head straight, take the stairs ALL the way down, and then go right. Sanaa is right there.

The pool bar: My one complaint about Kidani is that getting to the pool area is so convoluted. Follow the signs. :)

Wow, this is a lot of information in this thread and I will have to go through some of it, but just wanted to post that I am finalizing the details on renting some points from a DVC member for AKV for the week of May 5th-12th and I am pretty excited. We are getting a two bedroom since we are traveling with some family.

We started out looking at 3 rooms at a Value Resort and that was around $800-900, then we bumped it up to moderates (POR) which was around $1300-1400 per room, then we look at the Dolphin which was about the same cost as POR, then I finally ended up going with the whole point rental thing to end up with AKV.

The member I am working with has been awesome so far and his references had nothing but nice things to say about him (one renter has rented 4 times from him, her mom 3 and 3 of her friends), so that puts my mind at ease quite a bit about the whole process.

Anyway, now that we finally picked a place I am going to do a little more research about the things around the resort and whatnot and this seems like a great thread to start at.
