You must do it when you have the chance, it was so amazing. I was soaking up every minute out there with the animals.

Last time we were there we did the sunrise and we really enjoyed that, so I am looking forward to doing the evening one too.:thumbsup2

Good morning, Jamborinis and Kidanites! :sunny:

I have just booked 9 nights at the Dolphin for next October. With the teacher's discount they offer it was just too tempting. Other than the very first time we went to WDW we have never not stayed in a genuine WDW resort. But I know this will be fine as I have studied everything I could find and picked the brains of all my other Disney friends who stay there all the time!

Right now we are set for October 5-14, 2012. Not sure if I am going to put up a ticker yet, or not! :rotfl:

Morning.....

Elin, I want to do this too, but not sure of the dates and I can only come down for a long weekend next year.... Is your best guess, that it will happen the weekend of the 5th?

Congrats on the teacher discount...:teacher: My daughter is a teacher, can I use her discount?

Then an absolute must would be the Wanyama Safari, you can only do it when staying at AKL (both Jambo House and Kidani Village). You first go on a guided tour of the savannahs, your guides are two animal handlers, so they personally know all the animals, followed by a family style dinner at Jiko with wine tasting. We don't drink wine, so that part of the evening was lost to us, but I think there were three different ones. Entrees were all you can eat, but they said only one or two groups have ever gotten more food. We loved Jiko so much we went back again later in the trip, but the absolute best part was to go on the savannahs and see the animals up close and get the history from the guides. (you are in a truck, you're not walking) You do get a discount if you have a Disney Visa (20%) It was $225 per person plus tax this past January, but I was able to save about $100 with the discount.

I'll definitely look into this one!

Brian

Not put up a ticker! You must!!!!

The sunrise safari was great also. I didn't even mind getting up early for it, I'm not a morning person, there were just a lot of people. That breakfast was so delicious!

I'll definitely look into this one!

Brian

I'm so glad you're giving AKL a chance since you seem like a diehard WL fan. :)

Most of the CMs are from Africa, so they have plenty of stories to share. AKL is kind of like Animal Kingdom Park, if you rush around you'll miss stuff. Take it slow, look at the exhibits (they have tons of authentic African items all around the resort) sit in the rocking chairs, and of course watch the animals. It's a marvelous place.

Yes it is me. :-) Have not seen you on the WL thread much lately. Of course I have not been on there as much as I used to be. Hoping my upcoming trips will change that.

Brian

....:thumbsup2 ....one can only hope.

...most folks that like WL will also love AKL....that's because AKL is basically the 'baby brother' of WL...they have the same architect/designer team.

Hey Jamborini's and Kidanites!!! Hope everyone is well!!!

** Elin - ya gotta put up a ticker!!! :)

OH THERE"S PERRY!!! :rotfl: Love all the pictures and how you have David in his Centerfold pose:thumbsup2

LOL!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

...yeah, but the staple would HURT LIKE HECK...:lmao:

LOL!!!!!!!!! :lmao:

As you all have gotten to know David and I over the years, I am sure this does not surprise you one bit! :rotfl:

OMG - I needed a good laugh today!!!! He's such a good sport - so much fun!!!! :grouphug:

Yep, I have heard that it's the same architect. WL is a grand place I will admit, we had lunch there once. I just really love the animals at AKL. I could sit and watch them for hours. I'm sure I'll get to WL to stay one of these days since I must visit all the DVC properties. Maybe I'll plan on a split stay so I can still get my AKL magic :)

Brandi, I have a "best guess"!! ;) Next year will be #3. The first two years were the weekend preceding Columbus Day (observed) - and coincidentally the 2nd weekend of Epcot F&WF. The CMs I spoke with at Swan/Dolphin's Classic stated next year's would be "the same weekend". Oct 5 & 6 are the Friday and Saturday at the start of Columbus Day weekend (and also the 2nd weekend of F&WF).

I'm confident enough that I have booked Dolphin 10/4-7. :thumbsup2 (I wouldn't be surprised to see confirmation of the dates shortly after F&WF ends in mid-November.)

As to the Teacher discount, your daughter would have to be traveling with you (she could book several rooms with her discount) - they require proof of eligibility at check-in (ID,paystub, or something on "official" school stationery).

You and David might actually do better booking a package. It will include the room and the Causeway (all you care to eat & drink) for two; another package includes the room, Causeway and a seminar or 2 (those are worthy! :worship:) for two! :thumbsup2

David has agreed to do the package and bank our DVC points unless we rent them out....

So we are planning right now on being there for the weekend! :woohoo: :yay:

See I feel better already knowing that I am going back... It has been bothering me so much that I did not have a counter to my next WDW vacation...
