Hey all,

I am finally booked at the other lodge. I'm a Wilderness Lodger that is defecting for the first time... So what are the must do's at AKL?

Brian

....hmmmm, I THOUGHT you looked kinda familiar....

It's just two adults so it will be a quiet trip. I'm open to spending. Just looking for those unique things that set AKL apart...

Then an absolute must would be the Wanyama Safari, you can only do it when staying at AKL (both Jambo House and Kidani Village). You first go on a guided tour of the savannahs, your guides are two animal handlers, so they personally know all the animals, followed by a family style dinner at Jiko with wine tasting. We don't drink wine, so that part of the evening was lost to us, but I think there were three different ones. Entrees were all you can eat, but they said only one or two groups have ever gotten more food. We loved Jiko so much we went back again later in the trip, but the absolute best part was to go on the savannahs and see the animals up close and get the history from the guides. (you are in a truck, you're not walking) You do get a discount if you have a Disney Visa (20%) It was $225 per person plus tax this past January, but I was able to save about $100 with the discount.

I thought you could only hop to other DVC pools? or can you hop to anywhere except Storm Along Bay and Bay Lake Towers? I know I've read those rules numerous times, but until I do it I can't commit it to memory.

You also can't hop to the two pools at AKL/V. Years ago you couldn't hop to CSR but that appears to have changed now.

I really have no idea. I have never pool hopped.

I have not owned a bathing suit in years.

Afternoon Jamborini's and Kidanites!!!! No school today so were just hanging out - teaching the boy how to do laundry............. :scared1: - but, he's gotta learn (his wife will thank me for it) :thumbsup2

I know, can you believe it!!!!!!!!!

YUP - yer twisted alright.................. :rolleyes1

I actually did not eat even one this trip................. :sad1:

:rotfl2: - Pilferk wouldn't need to win the powerball if you had been stuck in that carseat........... we'd ALL have paid GOOD money to see that!!!!!! :lmao:

** Pilferk - glad you had a good trip, despite the rain early on!!!
:rotfl:

On a side note.......... I DID get my donald duck cupcake cup!!! :)
Yes he needs to learn to do laundry. And quick. He might be doing a house full soon. :rotfl:

And you did not want the cupcake just the mug it was in right?

I have never done this but it is on our todo list.

LOL - yep, two babies produce a lot of dirty clothes!!! :goodvibes

Yeah, I ate the frosting off the cupcake (I was just a little tipsy after dinner at Cape May) then offered it to DH - who thought I was crazy, then DS ate it anyway........... :confused3 LOL

The cup is adorable though!!! :thumbsup2

I was quoted the Wanyama Safari at 190 + tax by AKL CL Cast Member when I asked for our upcoming trip Maybe they changed it but I was told no Disney Visa discount.

Does DVC or AP get a discount?

I've done it twice. It is awesome! The only drawback is that you don't get to choose what you eat, but they bring you such an assortment, it's OK! :thumbsup2

Good Evening everyone! Our garage sale went really well. I love getting things cleaned out and repurposed to someone new. :) My DH gave me a big box all wrapped up super pretty for our anniversary yesterday. It was tickets for us to see Lion King at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas :yay::yay::hug: I am excited!

Evi & Brandi, we were given an AP discount last year. Maybe you can call concierge and asking about the AP discount. You are going to love it Evi, it is a must do at AKL if you can. Brandi, you have to do the Wanyama Safari sometime. It is our favorite!

It is the only way to taste pretty much every thing on their menu. The food is amazing! Franandaj, you are getting close to your trip. party::dancer: I am excited for you. :yay:

You must do it when you have the chance, it was so amazing. I was soaking up every minute out there with the animals.

I do know that CL gets an extra discount. When I got the check I was so confused that it was less, I went over it again and again back in the room trying to figure it out. I'm sad that they changed the Disney Visa discount though. I'm surprised they changed things within a year, I would think it would be on a yearly rotation.

I agree, that was the only drawback. But they brought multiple options of each course which was great.

Everything I have eaten at Jiko has been wonderful, I am sure if you did not like it they would change it out with something else.

I love that place, it is one of my favorites...:lovestruc

oh how wonderful! Happy Anniversary and congratulations on Vegas and Lion King!!!!!

When I read this I had to laugh at myself really. We drive from Boston to Portland just to get a burger at the Great Lost Bear actually I'm partial to the mother and child reunion but still I've always thought of it as a fun day trip.

:lmao: That is the difference between someone in Mass and RI. A RI'er would not drive more than 1/2 hr to eat somewhere:rotfl2:

The crazy man laying on the table is my David....

OH THERE"S PERRY!!! :rotfl: Love all the pictures and how you have David in his Centerfold pose:thumbsup2

I have been having intense pangs of homesick-like feelings for the AKL recently so we just booked a quick three-night getaway next month! We'll be checking in 11/28! I LOVE AKL! I don't even think we're going to do do much park visiting in those three days, I just want to soak in the atmosphere around the lodge. We booked a pool view room to save cash, we've only ever had Savannah views previously so I'm hoping we aren't too disappointed, but I hope it'll just motivate us to frequent the wonderful viewing areas! :lovestruc

:woohoo:

...it's not that bad - you have to make an adventure out of it.

It definitely would be an adventure:confused:

It was a GREAT last day and a half (and an uneventful, sometimes frustsrating, drive home).

Last full day, we did the Illuminations cruise. There were 5 of us...and we added 5 more new friends we made while at WDW. It was AMAZING (and we found out they offer a DVC discount!).

Then, on our last morning we spent MOST of the AM on Tom Sawyer Island (because that's what the kids wanted to do) and then having lunch with Pooh at CP. We were on the road by about 1:30PM.

Stopped overnight in Wilson, NC, and made it home yesterday about 6 PM. Traffic in Jersey was terrible....with closures on the Jersey Pike for no apparent reason (no accidents, no construction actively going on...nothing I could see) and SLOW drivers on the Garden State. Still...we all held up pretty well.

Now...I'm back at work, sitting at my desk, thinking about our next trip in Dec 2012 and hoping we win Powerball on Wednesday so I can move that date up a bit. :)

Welcome back home!:sad1:

Good morning, Jamborinis and Kidanites! :sunny:

I have just booked 9 nights at the Dolphin for next October. With the teacher's discount they offer it was just too tempting. Other than the very first time we went to WDW we have never not stayed in a genuine WDW resort. But I know this will be fine as I have studied everything I could find and picked the brains of all my other Disney friends who stay there all the time!

Right now we are set for October 5-14, 2012. Not sure if I am going to put up a ticker yet, or not! :rotfl:

....that's because, if you DID drive more than a 1/2 hour, you'd BE IN A DIFFERENT STATE! :rotfl2:
