Today is my big 4-0:woohoo: Nothing special planned, really, due to Scott's work schedule kept getting changed around...I treid to get the day off, but someone beat me to it, so it's just another day.
Was hoping I'd win the lottery for my birthday and I'd be typing this to you from a WDW resort somewhere:rotfl:

Happy belated birthday. I'll be the BIG 40 next June:confused:

Congrats on your 7,000 post. Wow:worship:

kimmar, can I join the fun? We are planning on 5 of our 10 nights at the AKV, just cannot decide between Jambo and Kidani. and what savanah I want to look at. :woohoo:

Glad you joined us! :thumbsup2 I think it's really a matter of if you want to be in the middle of the "action" (Jambo) or if you want the extra space of Kidani. What's important to you and your family? Maybe we can help you decide! ;)

:goodvibes Thanks Laura! I will happily take any help deciding. There will be 6 of us (2 adults, 3 teens (girls), and one tween (male) in a 2 bedroom and I'm willing to cough up the points for a guaranteed savanah view. I'd like to be near a CS but it's not a deal breaker. In order of importance is:

  • the view
  • the bar or lounge
  • the pool
  • CS

We won't have a car so I don't care about parking. I'm action oriented  but think the 3rd bathroom might be useful. We've stayed at Jambo with dear friends. They reserved a value 2 bedroom but we scored a SV. Not willing to chance it though. We do enjoy time at the resorts and activities offered.

wow..those posts were crazy this morning...

Kim..look at the red and white thing on the bottom??

and yes..I have been at the resorts at Christmas time (i love WL at christmas) but last year I went in January and we came back to AKL late one night and they were taking the tree down :(

Boy, the posts WERE screwy this morning!

Laura - Congrats, my friend! 7000 posts is terrific!

Kathy - I remember that drum-like bottom now. I think it was only one year they did that. I like it better without it.

Happy Friday evening, everyone!

It's quiet here this evening, but hopefully more Jamborinis and Kidanites will post their thoughts over the weekend.

View: Sunset Savannah (from Kidani) would be my choice. I would also suggest 2nd floor (lobby level) to be more at eye level with the animals. My first stay I was on 5th floor and while the view was beautiful, I had to look down at the animals and they felt further away.

Bar or Lounge: Sanaa (in Kidani) has a small, but really fun bar. I prefer it to Victoria Falls in Jambo.

The pool: Both are awesome, but I think Kidani's is slightly better. Both have amazing pool bars! :thumbsup2 And of course, your family can use the amenities at both resorts.

CS: The Mara at Jambo is the only CS. Kidani's pool bar has a small food menu. It's a nice little walk between the 2 -- or you can just hop any park bus at Kidani and it will take you right to Jambo! (The DTD bus at Jambo will take you back to Kidani.)

While I love all things AKL, to me, there is no comparison between the rooms - Kidani wins hands-down. :goodvibes

Happy Friday evening back atcha!!

Post times are still screwy!! :confused3 Guess time doesn't matter if they will just be in correct order!!

7,000 is small-beans compared to your posts, my friend! ;)

Just curious, someone had started a thread about Palmento bugs being in excess in his room, has me really nervous, as I would freak out if I thought there was even one of those in the room. Has anyone here ever heard of this ?

Jenny - I saw on your DL TR that you were investigating AKV, and was going to suggest you come over here and ask some questions, but you already found it! :thumbsup2

I would say given your crop of kids (and knowing what DVC snobs they are :lmao:) You should go with Kidani. I would request a 2nd floor room midway between the lobby and Jambo. This would put you closer to Jambo (and the Mara), but you wouldn't be really far away from the pool and the bar. It's a big resort and if they put you at the opposite end you could have a really long walk to the Mara. The pool is near the Lobby, the restaurant and bar are directly under the lobby.

The other thing is that third bathroom will really come in handy. Your DH could help out with the hairstyling in there! :rotfl2: That way you two will still have your own bathroom. The master bath is like a suite itself, bigger than my first apartment almost!

I saw that thread and let me assure you, that is an extremely isolated incident. Palmetto bugs are everywhere in the southeast, but places like WDW do an amazing job of keeping Palmettos (and all bugs) out of the buildings. :thumbsup2

Not to freak you out, but Palmettos can turn up just as easily at Pop Century or the Grand Floridian as they can at AKL!

Some weather phenomena, like a torrential rainfall or extreme heat, will drive bugs indoors. Thankfully, the chemicals used to keep the buildings bug-free are not as caustic as they once were (those bug killers were bad for OUR health), so an occasional bug or 2 or 3 is going to make it inside alive!

I stay at WDW resorts multiple times each year (AKL at least twice a year ;)) and have never had a bug issue. :goodvibes

Woo hoo on one week!:cool1:

Happy Saturday all! It's been a crazy week,so I've only gone back a few pages (but it was well worth the craziness!)

Wendy - so glad you are feeling better, and just hang in there. It will continue to imporve- just shoot me an email if you need to talk/vent.

Someone asked where I got the Mickey Peppermint lights - I bought those at Kmart. They are LED, but don't show up as much as I wanted them to, then again maybe it's just against my house they don't show up.

Today is my big 4-0:woohoo: Nothing special planned, really, due to Scott's work schedule kept getting changed around...I treid to get the day off, but someone beat me to it, so it's just another day.

Happy belated birthday and welcome to the 40's club. It hasn't been that bad so far. :rotfl:
