that they will be filming the Holiday Parade on Dec. 6th in MAgic Kingdom?

I haven't seen it posted officially, but I'm taking it as true. Trying to decide our strategy for that day.

OMG!!! I'm arriving that evening! When would the parade take place? Where should I look to find an "official" announcement? It would be worth it to arrive earlier if we could see the parade!

We are trying to find out--to know what to do for that day--we were'nt supposed to be there until that night--but we could start our drive on Friday instead.

I honestly don't remember how far in advance they have announced it in the past. I know that by the time the appropriate weekend arrives, people all over WDW will be talking about it. Disney wants the park to be as packed as possible, so it does become common knowledge.

You might want to look for people who have attended in the past before you change your travel plans in order to attend. My understanding is that the MK is elbow-to-elbow most of the day, and the taping of the event itself can be very tedious. It's filmed in segments, with the same section of the parade repeated several times in a row so that they have multiple "takes" to choose from.

I personally can't think of any good reason to attend other than bragging rights. It certainly won't be a leisurely day to enjoy the Magic Kingdom.

The last two years we have been there the first weekend of December and they tape on Saturday--both years we have missed it--but from what I hear on these boards later that's OK, it's a very boring, long day. If you watch the parade on Christmas day you see that the shadows vary from morning times to later in the day.
The only thing that ticks the kids off is that we NEVER see the celebrities there for the parade because we are always in a different park--we missed Hilary Duff and Jump 5 last year.

We will be in the parks that weekend, and I need to know if we should avoid the MK, or if we just need to avoid Main Street?

Several parades are taped over a couple of days.

No official tapings are announced.

Straight from the tour desk at WDW comes this message left on our answering machine yesterday. We are sorry to inform you that we will have to cancel your Steam Train Tour that is scheduled for Dec 6th since we will be filming the Christmas parade that day and the camars are set up on the railstation and the train won't be running. So in answer to your questions it would certainly appear that they are filming that day.

I have friends in the executive offices and they have said the taping is to be held on the 6th. Not sure when it starts. I have to email them to see if they have a schedule for taping.

Last year, they did stationary filming (had a float, or whatever, just standing there, with crowd cheering) many many takes, in the morning and early afternoon. The parade itself was supposed to start at 4:00 but actually started much later.

The only way you could get through main street was through the shops.

Ed, that's one reason why we will probably skip MK on filming day. I am taking a guess that the other parks will be empty. Might be a good day for a water park.

Does anyone know about what time they will be finished taping? We will be at another park that day, but have 5:00pm PS at LTT. I wondered if the park would still be busy with the filming when we get there. Anyone been there in the past and remember about what time they finished up?

Thanks,
Wendy

We happened to be there last year during the taping. MK was PACKED everywhere. Elbow to elbow doesn't even begin to describe it. I've never seen it so bad. If I had known about the parade and the subsequent crowds, I would have avoided it at all costs. I wasn't up there watching the taping but could see a little of it from a distance. It is done in segments.

This is not exciting. We did this once when they used to have the Easter parade (and taped it several weeks before). The park is packed and then you basically get to watch a four to five hour presentation of a 30 minute parade -- it is like doing a movie, they constantly stop, change things, redo, etc., so they get it perfect for TV.

DH and I spent 7+ hours last year on the curb watching the filming of this parade...we had a great time but then again we had no kiddos with us......it takes up the space from main street up and including the Hub... I didn't try to move but I imagin it was difficult to get around...

Yes, please tell me when it is over! We have PS for Tony's at 5:25 on the 6th. We were planning to stay for Spectromagic that night. If it will be wall to wall people - I want to change the plan now! This is our first day in WDW and I want to get it off to a good start.

Opinions from those of you who have been on parade filming day will help me make up my mind!

Thanks!

When does the parade air? I thought they showed it on Christmas morning but last year I tried to find it for my dd and couldn't. I though maybe they no longer broadcast it or something.

It depends on your ABC affiliate. We used to be able to get two ABC stations. One would show the parade in the morning and the other would show it in the afternoon.

I can't wait to find out more about this! We will be there that weekend, having been to MVMCP the night before!! We live only 90 minutes away and have been to MK many many times. We(my ds, 8 yrs old and I) are looking forward to seeing how the parade is taped! We don't really care about the crowds or missing the rides, we can see them another time!! We'd like the bragging rights, and are just interested in seeing what goes on. We most likely won't stay the whole time, but it will be kinda cool to say we were there and saw part of it!:hyper:
