Is it too early for rental car reservations for end of Sept?

Looking for Sept for a mid-sizeish or bigger (2 kids in car seats) + 2 biggish suitcases.

I just booked on for February of 2011 so I would say no it's not too early

I'd book now and then check the prices every couple of weeks. Then about 2 weeks before the trip try Priceline to see if you can beat your price.

We booked our car through Hertz in Febuary for September, but we wanted a specific car, and didn't want it to sell out.

As long as the reservation is not prepaid and can be canceled, it is never too early.
