Is it too early for an April 2014 PTR? Starting one anyway. FINAL 4/28 & TR Link!

Hi Sandra! I'm joining in... sorry, I didn't see this sooner! :) What a cutie Joey is!

I'm glad you didn't cancel your trip due to your son's diagnosis. It may be just the measure of magic that your family will enjoy! I know there is so much information out there since it is such a prevalent diagnosis but still it is your little one and you want to do everything you can to adjust and cope. I love your positive attitude.

As for your plans for April, I have to congratulate you for so much thought and effort already. I still haven't made all of my dining reservations for our December trip so I'm feeling waaaayyy behind.

I am joining in while you count down until April! :)

Thanks so much Brenda! Nice to have you following along. Planning on updating soon since I'm getting closer to that magical 180 day mark to make my ADRs :)

What a handsome boy! I am so sorry to hear about your appointment. I know first hand how hard it is adjusting your expectations when you find out your child has special needs, but it can also be reassuring to just put a name to it, and know that you are being proactive. For me when I am with my son, I revel in just how special he is, but when we are separated I start thinking about all the what ifs, and the obstacles he may encounter when he is older that is when I get overwhelmed, so extra family time, extra fun, and extra pixie dust is always in order! pixiedust:

Disney will give you guys something to look forward to, and while I don't know a lot about autism, perhaps it will even be good for him. Good luck to your little family! And I think the disboards have a very active autism group, I am sure you will find strong support from the autism community.

Thank you so much for the encouraging words. It was definitely a punch in the stomach for us, but we have lined up some great interventions/therapies. He will be re-evaluated after 6 months of the therapy sessions and then we will go from there. I'm trying to take it one day at a time, but can't help my mind from drifting to the "what if".

Thanks again for taking the time to comment!

I just wanted to start off by saying thank you to all that have shared encouraging words regarding my son. We have lined up some speech and behavioral therapies which kick off next week. I'm glad to be moving forward with a plan of attack now that we have all the paperwork behind us. They will re-evaluate him after six months of the therapies and if they are still seeing the same autistic signs they saw before we will focus on therapies that are more autistic specific. Needless to say this has been a very stressful time for my DH and I because regular life and stresses don't stop, we are trying not to take the stress out on each other but I have to say it's easier said than done. So, I find some peace when I think about our upcoming trip in LESS THAN 6 MONTHS!!!!!

Ok, on to the PTR update. So, I know you will all be shocked I made some changes. We discussed the option of leaving on Easter Sunday with my step-daughter's mom. She was fine with it and understood that it would be good to get a few hours of travel under out belt. Woohoo! So, we will definitely be leaving NC on the afternoon of Easter Sunday. We are hoping to make it to Savannah area which is basically the half way point for us. We will stay at a hotel along the way...getting 2 rooms for our group. I might do a bit of looking ahead of time to see if I can line up a place, my DH just wants to keep driving and just find a place on the way. I am too much of a planner to let that happen! I just want to have a list of hotels that are potentials for us. :)

We will then drive the rest of the way to Disney on Monday, 4/21. My initial thought was to head to MK after we checked into the condo, but everything I have read says to avoid MK on Easter Monday. We have decided to head to Epcot for the afternoon instead.

This will definitely be a change for me because I have ALWAYS started (and ended) my trips with the MK. We will probably stick to FW and grab a CS meal somewhere. I'm still juggling the idea of making an ADR at the Garden Grille, but I'm trying to limit the ADR since I promised the DH I would, but we will see. LOL. I just know we don't want to stay too late because we will have a long day from traveling and we will have an early morning the next morning to make RD at MK!!

I know this was a short update, but I will have another one soon which will include my ADR for MK because I was just able to make it today!!!! YAY!!!

April 22, 2013 – Magic Kingdom Day!!!!

So, I left off with sharing some information about our arrival date and our plans to visit Epcot for the afternoon/evening. Now, let’s move onto our first full day, and we will be spending that day at the Magic Kingdom!!!! This is mine and my DD’s favorite park. We plan to spend the entire day at this park and not hop anywhere, but you know as well as I do that can change.  Based on some the Crowd Calendars I have looked at some of them say to avoid MK on this day, but honestly some the calendars say to avoid this MK basically the entire week until Thursday. I’m sorry I can’t wait that long into the trip to visit the MK. So, we will have to brave the crowds.

I have already warned the family that we will be getting to the MK for RD. I don’t think there is any better way to start off your day, not to mention if it is going to be crowded I know this is the best plan of attack. After RD we will be heading to NFL with my DH stopping to grab some FP’s for Peter Pan. Peter Pan is one of my Mom’s favorite rides, I think it has to do with her being British…LOL.

My DD fell in the love with Ariel’s ride on our last trip so that will probably be our first stop. It will be a great first ride because we will all be able to ride it. My DD has already informed my sister (she calls her Tia) that she wants to ride with her. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the Mine Train will be open by then, but we will have to wait and see about that. We will probably spend a good bit of time in Fantasyland because there is so much for the kids to do and it will be the first time my Mom, MIL and my sister will be seeing NFL.

After that we will grab some lunch at a CS, I’m thinking probably Columbia Harbour House. I personally would love to eat at BOG but there really isn’t anything on the menu my DH would like (he’s the pickiest eater out of the bunch). Pecos Bill is always a winner for us as well.

After lunch we will have to see how the little ones (and the Grandmas) are doing. We may head back to the condo to rest up and maybe do a little swimming (if the weather permits), or we may just keep making our way around the park. My Mom would be happy to find a shady spot and sit with my son while he naps, so this we will just have to play by EAR.

After FL I would like to head to Tomorrowland. We will definitely take a spin on SM or get FP’s for later that even. The PeopleMover and COP are musts in my book. COP is another one of my Mom’s favorites and I know my MIL will enjoy that as well. DD also gets a kick out of it as well. So, maybe I will let my DH and Sister bypass it and let them go off for a bit.

So, my first ADR of the trip is The Plaza Restaurant. I can’t remember ever eating here, but it seems to be right up my DH”s alley….good ‘ole American food. Our ADR is for 6:45pm.

We may or may not stay for the parade and Wishes since it will be a long day for us, and we will definitely have another chance to catch this later on in the trip. I know I’m going to have to be flexible because of the size of our group (7…5 adults and 2 kids). However, when it comes to my DH’s and my Honeymoon re-do that we are looking to do in the next year or two…I will be back to my control freak self.

I hope you are enjoying my PTR and please feel free to say hello (I don’t bite). Also, please feel free to share your thoughts/advice/suggestions/remarks about any of the plans I have shared. For this particular update I would love to get some feedback on The Plaza Restaurant since I have not eaten there before

4/23/13 – Disney Hollywood Studios (though I still want to call it MGM)

Hollywood here we come! One thing I’m looking forward to on this trip is my MIL’s reaction to everything. As I have mentioned before she took my DH to the Magic Kingdom about 30 years and she thinks that is Disney. I can’t wait for her to see the other parks and learn this is Disney!!

Orlando Vacations

Again, I want to be at DHS for park opening, the main reason being we MUST get FPs for Toy Story (keeping fingers crossed the old FP will still be in place when we go). I’m sad to say I have never been on this ride (please don’t make me turn in my Disney Card because of this). We always get distracted in the past and by the time we make it over there the standby line is waaaaaaayyyyy too long and the FP’s are either gone or are too late for us. I know this has been poor planning on my part, so the DH fully understands that either he or I will need to head straight over to Toy Story to get FP’s. Ideally I would love to get the whole group over there so we can get in the standby line and FP’s for later that day…however I don’t know how quickly I could get a group of 7 over there. No matter what though I will make it on Toy Story this trip!!!!! 

My DH definitely wants to do ToT, and I know my sister will join him for that. I might actually skip it this go around. When DH and I went on it for our honeymoon it scared me to death, but I might give it another go. The Grandmas will definitely skip this one, so they can watch the kiddos (even though my DD7 said she might give it a try…we will see).

It’s going to be so nice being able to go on rides with my DH this time around. When we went in November 2012 we had to swap out on the rides so one of us could stay with the kids. Don’t get me wrong I love riding the rides with my kids and watching their reactions, but for the rides they can’t go on it will be nice to ride with the DH.

Ok, so back to the DHS plan….again Toy Story is a MUST. ToT (with or without me joining in) and RnR is another must. My Mom and sister have not been to DHS since my sister was teeny tiny, so I know she will love ToT and RnR. I would also like to go on the Movie Ride because I know the Grandmas will love it! Of course there will be a stop (or two) for Star Tours...my DH LOVES Star Wars!

We are going to try and get as much done that morning as we can. We have an ADR at Sci-Fi at 12:45. This was one of my DH’s favorite restaurants that we ate at in November. I love this place as well, and again I think the Grandmas will get a kick out of it. Not to mention the food selection there is great so I’m not worried about anyone not finding something to eat.

Google Images

After lunch we will tackle any of the activities we weren’t able to get to that morning. We will want to squeeze in the Disney Junior Live show for my little guy. I also think my DD7 will enjoy it too, but she won’t admit it because “it’s for babies”. Help me!! She is approaching that tween age!!

I would love to stick around for F!, but again this will depend on how the group is doing. I had a thought of maybe taking my DS and the Grandmas back to the condo and then heading back to DHS with DH, DD and my sister.

So, where will we be heading the next day? And, we have one more ADR left for this trip, so where will be dining?

Sounds like you guys handled this AMAZINGLY. That sounds like a perfect plan and I like that they're giving him 6 months with one set of therapies and then re-evaluating. That way you'll have time to see how he does with them and can re-adjust if needed. I hope all is going well with him, and with you guys. If you ever need someone to vent to, you can always PM me! :grouphug:

I would totally line up a place ahead of time and then just "happen" to stop at it while we're driving! :rotfl2: I'm not so good with not planning either!

I think your MK plans sound great. Heading to NFL/Fantasyland first is smart, especially with kids!

I haven't eaten at the Plaza but if you read Shannon's TR, she and her family ate there and she had nothing but positive things to say about it! I think you'll enjoy it!

Your DHS plans sounds good too! We didn't do TSMM until our second trip because we never even made it over there the first trip! Even us planners have our moments! The one thing I'd add is to see Beauty and the Beast! I think it's an unbelievable show and I think everyone in your group will be able to enjoy it!

Courtney, thanks so much for the encouragement about my son. This week was the first week of actual therapy (last week was more of an introduction). It's tough to see him get so frustrated, but I know it's the best for him.

My step-daughter has made if very clear that her first ride at the MK will be Ariel. :) I'm not mad about that at all.

Do you mind sending me a link or pointing me in the right direction for Shannon's TR...I would love to read her review for the Plaza Restaurant!

We did Beauty and the Beast the last visit and my DSD loved it...my DS was a bit tired at the time so he was cranky. Maybe the girls can see the show this trip and the boys (DH and DS) go have some boy time somewhere. :)

Thanks for following along, and I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers regarding your job!

Sorry to hear he's getting frustrated but hopefully he'll get more comfortable/used to it. Early intervention can make such a difference. When my older sister was little, my mother was so overwhelmed. She sent her to pre-school still drinking a bottle and in diapers because she just couldn't get her to give them up. In the first month, the staff at the school had her potty trained and bottle gone. There are some wonderful people working with children.

Girl after my own heart! I love Ariel so much, she's always been my favorite!

Maybe send the boys off to Indiana Jones or the car stunt show? Sounds like boy friendly things. :rotfl:

Shannon's TR is here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3154890 !

Thank you SO MUCH for your good thoughts! I've had some fantastic news this week! :cloud9:

So glad to hear you got some good news!!

We have already seen improvement with Joey so I know we are doing the right thing, but as a Mommy it breaks my heart to see him get so frustrated and cry because he doesn't understand we are doing this to help him. Both Therapist have said it will get better as time goes on with the therapy, but the first few weeks are hard (for everyone).

Thanks for following along...I appreciate all the comments

Resort Change (again) – I know you are shocked!!

Well, we have had a change in our condo (again). We had decided to hold off on paying a deposit on the townhouse we found because of what is going on with Joey…we weren’t even sure if we were going to keep the trip scheduled. So, just for kicks I looked at a few more places through a vacation rentals website and I came across someone offering a great deal for people staying 5 nights or more. Well, we are staying exactly 5 nights, and the villa has EVERYTHING we were looking for (4 bedrooms, pool, full kitchen, plenty of bathrooms)!! To top it off we are saving over $300! Woohoo. It is just a bit farther away from Disney then the other place, but I’m willing to drive an extra 5 minutes to save over $300.

The villa is located in the Villas at Seven Dwarfs Lane…I would love to hear some feedback if anyone is familiar with this community. What I have seen online it looks great!

google images

I’ve been in touch with the owner and I’m just waiting on final confirmation from him regarding when and where to send our deposit to reserve the villa. Fingers crossed everything falls into place!

Struck out on Villa :sad2:

UGH!!! Just a quick update. So, my the villa fell through...someone has already reserved it for my dates. Oh well, back to the drawing board. It's been such a struggle to find an affordable place for the 7 of us. I was even tempted to just get 2 hotel rooms and call it a day, but I'm going to keep searching and if I can't lock something down by mid next month I will look into the hotel route.

I would feel so much better once I have this all reserved, but I know it will work out just need to be patient until the right place comes along. Personally, I'm fine with sleeping in the car as long as I'm at Disney (not really).

Well, I hope everyone has been having a great week and TGIF! I promise I will have a more fun update the next time.

Sorry about the villa not working out - I loved the name of the community. You have a great attitude, there is something else out that that will work out.

As for your DHS park plans, we rarely ride TSMM since we don't get ourselves the park early enough to get a FP. However, ToT is my favorite so I try to ride that as often as possible. :thumbsup2

I think Sci-Fi will be an entertaining and fun option for your group.

Thanks Brenda!! I'm one of those people that try to look at the positive side of things :) and as my Mom always says...Everything happens for a reason. I guess I just need to be patient now and wait for the reason to show up. :)

Thanks for following along!

Hotel Update and plans for 4/24!!

Ok, so I left off with the dilemma of our villa. So, things have changed a bit and my sister will not be joining us so that changes us to a party of 4 adults and 2 kids. After discussing this with my Mom (the other planner in the family), we both agreed we could probably find a hotel and get 2 rooms or a see if we could find a suite to fit all of us. So, I found a suite hotel about 1 mile from the Disney Entrance, it's Quality Inn Royale Parc Suites.

I've read both good and bad reviews, but I had to bite the bullet and make a reservation. I was driving my family nuts discussing all the choices. I just want everyone to be with happy with where we are staying. We are definitely the commando type of park visitors so we won't be spending tons of time in the room.

We got a 1 bedroom suite...2 full beds in the bedroom and the sleeper sofa in the Living Room. It has a kitchenette and a free breakfast. My Mom has volunteered to take the Sleeper Sofa and share the Living Room with DS. We will have a Pack-N-Play for him but I fully expect to find him in the bed with my Mom every morning. DH, DD, DMIL and I will share the bedroom. Now I'm not saying I'm completely done looking, I'm always keeping my eyes opening for other possibilities. However, this place seems to fit all our needs and is costing us less than $600 for five nights. So, I guess I'm saying do not be shocked if this changes again but at least I know I have a reservation and a place to stay.

So, now onto the update for 4/24. We will be heading back to Epcot on this day! I know we hit this park on our arrival date, but I know we won't be able to hit the major things...TT and Soarin' since we won't arrive until after lunch on that day so I wanted to schedule another day where we could arrive in the Morning. I also think my DMIL will really enjoy this park because of the WS.

The plan of attack for this day is to arrive at Opening and me, DM and DD will head straight to Soarin' while DH, DMIL and DS head to get FP for TT. My DH went on Soarin' on our last trip and about had a panic attack, I think the fact that my DD was on the ride with him kept him calm enough to avoid a full on attack...he has a fear of flying so he did not do well at all. The FP gang will meet us back at the Land so we can ride Living with the Land. After that we will go over to The Seas with Nemo. At that point we will head over to TT (depending on our return time). We will have to ride this in shifts since DS will still be too little.

I'm guessing it will be around lunch time at this point so we will make our way over to WS and grab some lunch. We will check out the WS and go on the necessary rides in Mexico and Norway. :)

Once we are through the WS, we will hop to another park. The Grandmas might be ready for a break so we might take them back to the hotel, and DH and I just take he kids back to MK. I told my DH if we could make it happen I would love to squeeze in a park for just he and I to go to one evening. I told him we might as well take advantage having the Grandmas with us to do this, but we will see if this happens (I'm keeping my fingers crossed).

So, that is my update for now. Next update will include our plans for our last day :(

Hope everyone is enjoying this report...please don't be shy!

I warned you!!!!
I gave you all fair warning there could be a hotel change and guess what, a change has been made. I re-read the reviews for the Royale Parc and they started making me nervous. So, changed our hotel to Seralago Suites, I’ve had a couple of friends stay here and it sounds like it will meet my needs. I reserved a 2 room Suite. It has 2 double beds in the bedroom and sofa bed and a Murphy bed in the Living Room (which is one more bed then the other place). This gives us a bit more room to spread out which will be nice.

I really, really, really think this will be it, and there won’t be anymore changes to this part of the trip…oh who am I kidding I can’t make any promises!

4/25/13: So, let’s get back to the trip! Sadly it appears we have come to our last day of the trip. We are heading to Animal Kingdom this day.

My plan is to be there at opening, and head to the safari. I have read the animals seem to be a bit more lively in the morning, I have only been on this ride in the afternoon so we will see if that is true. I would love to hear from anyone that has been on this ride in the morning. My DM and DMIL have never been to this park (well my DMIL has only been to MK so this entire trip will be new to her). My DM works at an animal hospital so I know she will really enjoy seeing the animals.

After the Safari, we will head over to EE. I’m guessing only DH and I will ride this one while the Grandmas watch the kids. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if my DM gave it a try, she likes all the other thrill rides at Disney (except for RnR..she can’t do the upside down thing).

We will head over to DinoLand from EE, I will send DH over to grab a FP for Dinosaur while we spend some time in DinoLand. We enjoy the very thrilling and scary TriceraTop Spin. LOL This is a good ride for all of us to enjoy. DD says she is going to try Primeval Whirl this time, but we will see!

Then it will be off to Dinosaur, this is another ride my DD says she is going to ride this time but again I will wait and see. If she doesn’t want to go, we will take turns riding it because I don’t want to leave both kids with my DMIL…not sure if she could contain both of them while DH, me and DM go on it. Guess it will all depend on how the kids are feeling at that time.

After we have played around with the all the Dinosaurs we will head over to our final ADR of the trip…Rainforest Café. Our reservation is for 1:30. My DH and DD absolutely LOVED this place on the last trip. However, my DS wasn’t too impressed. :rotfl:

After lunch we will head over to check out all the animals. We haven’t really explored this area as much as I would have liked, so I’m hoping we are able to see more then we have in the past. Animal Kingdom is scheduled to stay open until 7pm, so even if we stay until close we will still have time to hop to MK to end our trip with Wishes. I seriously doubt we will stay until closing. We will probably head out around 4pm or so. We might head back to the hotel for a swim/rest and maybe grab some dinner outside the Parks. Whatever we do, I have to end my trip at MK and finish it off with Wishes!

So, there we have my TENATIVE plans for our trip. I’m planning on doing some more updates about some random items and of course keep you updated on any changes…hehe. Thank you all for following along!

DS Update!

I wanted to share a quick update on my how my DS is doing. I shared a couple of months ago that we were told he is showing signs of Autism. Well, we got him into Speech and Behavioral Therapy right away. This past week I finally saw some true progress with his communication!! Right now we are focusing on teaching him sign language to give him a way to communicate since the verbal speech is not there yet. Well, during his Speech Therapy session last week he signed the word "more" twice!!! I was such a proud Mamma!!

We have also seen progress with his Behavioral Therapy as well. He still gets upset when he has to transition into another activity, but he has learned to cope a bit better and doesn't seem to get AS frustrated. There is still frustration but not as much. He also LOVES to give his Therapist dirty looks. She doesn't mind this at all because she says he is communicating very clearly he is not happy. He proceeds to do what she is asking him to do, but will sneak in a dirty look here and there!

We will go back in a few months to have him re-assessed to see if the signs are still present. If so then we will move forward with further assessing and make steps toward an official diagnosis. Needless to say, I'm very proud of him and the steps he has made at this point. He is so affectionate and he is getting more comfortable with interacting with others besides just me, DH and his sister.

I think this was very obvious over Thanksgiving. He seemed to be very comfortable around the group of people at my mom's house. Then when we went to my In-Law's the following day my Sister in Law (a nurse) said she could really see a difference his eye contact and interaction! Just warmed my heart when she said this.

We are just taking it step by step every day, thanks for the encouragement that some of you have shared!

My brother and his family stay at Seralago almost every time they go to Disney! In fact, that's where they're staying between Christmas and New Years! It really is a nice place, and clean. They love it!!

Thank you so much for sharing this with me! I do get a bit worrisome when booking a new place, especially in a place like Kissimmee. There are some really great places, but then you can wind up at some not so nice places. Luckily, every place I've stayed in Kissimmee I have been happy with. I have seen the Seralago a couple times when booking hotels in the past, but have always opted to stay somewhere else. This time we needed a place just like the Seralago since they offered the 2 room suites. I like the fact we will all be together (I might not feel the same by the end of the trip).

Thanks again for sharing and also for reading along!
