Is it still worth it at $96 point?

 I have been waffling over buying DVC for three years. Now it is up to $96 a point with the incentive. Is it still worth it?

For you owners would you buy at $96?

Our intent is to go to Disney every other year and trade on the years we don't go (or take the Disney Cruise). But the posts make it sound very difficult to do that.

Any advice welcome.

ok...I'm not yet an owner. (Just made it through ROFR).

I think many others will ask you whether you stay at moderate or better resorts and how often, etc. so I'll leave that part of the analysis to them.

But having read this board and looking at the cost of exchanging points, I don't think exchanging points is ever a great use of points. You are better off renting out your points...or just buying fewer points. That's what we did. We bought a resale contract for 100 pts. (at $84 ppt) at SSR. If you are uncomfortable with $96 ppt, look for a smaller resale contract at a lower cost.

Good luck.

from what i understand, DVC has fairly high maintenance fees for a timeshare (and using points for cruises isn't necessarily a great deal either.)

have you considered buying 1/2 the points you need to stay at a DVC resort (you'd probably have to go resale) and bank/borrow points to use every other year...and then using the difference to buy a separate timeshare and/or pay for a disney cruise?

i don't think $96 is necessarily a high price for DVC but i wouldn't pay that if i intended to use it as you are planning. (but if it's worth it to you, don't let me stop you...)

Instead of worrying about trading every other year, you would best be served by buying a smaller amount of points and using two years worth of points on each everyother year trip. That will mean a lower initial purchase as well as lower dues. Using banking and borrowing works extrememly well with Disney. Maybe look for a resale.

As to price. We just paid $101 a point with no discounts for AKV, and thought it was fine to get into the new resort and get current year's points. We only added a small amount there though (69pts), so it wasn't a whopping bill.

I agree, buy less points and pay cash or look at other options for non DVC stays. It makes no sense at $50 or 100 per point to buy DVC for the exchange options. If this means you don't buy or go resale to get less than 160, so be it.

Here's my take on this.

I originally bought a resale at BCV for $73/pt in 2004 for what I thought was a very reasonalbe price, I fell in love with DVC so much I bought another resale for OKW last year for $73/pt. Originally my intent was the same as yours, but as you can see "I love Disney". Well to get to your question.... I just purchased a contract at AKV for $93 (a couple bucks cheaper since I'm already a member), so $96/pt isn't IMOP a bad deal. I don't think resale will drop below this. My BCV is now selling for over $92/pt.

I never thoug I'd buy another contract but $93 didn't sound too bad to me.

I agree with the others who suggested buying half the points you need for every other year trips to WDW.

You could buy a smaller contract resale for less money but if you want the longer contract then the cost is not likely to ever go down from Disney.

If anything initial cost will climb to the triple digits.
